Getting the first outer bands of the storm coming through. Sounds like the worst of it could be early Monday morning. Right when Gail's flight gets in. ðĪŠ

Had myself a feast last night! Big ole porterhouse and the biggest spiny lobster tail I'd ever seen. The lobster was actually too big I think; it was a little tough. I would go with a couple small tails next time instead of one huge one.

Gail's flight is in the air! Really surprised me that it took off without delay. It's nasty here. Got woke up several times from the wind, rain, and limbs hitting the roof. Should be a fun drive to Sanford and back to pick her up. I'm sure her ride won't be the smoothest, especially when they get down this way.

I'm not sure if I should ask this but are you surviving all the rain thus far?

I'm not sure if I should ask this but are you surviving all the rain thus far? Yep. The rain finally moved out yesterday! Only a few light showers. Lots of standing water here but I haven't seen any flooding. Just gonna have to rethink my trip. The scallop grounds are going to be a mess for a while with no visibility in the water and the shrimp don't like this influx of freshwater. We also have a temporary visitor. Gail flew down with a puppy that she is delivering to Virginia tomorrow via a "turn and burn" flight. It's a tiny little Maltipoo but she's crazy! ð Too much energy for me! I'll be glad when she's gone tomorrow. ð

Welp, Gail is supposed to be flying to Virginia and back tonight to deliver a puppy but she's sitting in Sanford with a flight delay. Good ole Debby is up there now! We can't catch a break this week! Oh, and I set my crab traps in Lake George yesterday and did some bass fishing on the way back. I tied on some topwaters just before dark and a damned Osprey swooped down and grabbed Gail's!! Came out of nowhere and scared the shit out of us. It snapped the line and was not happy at all to find hooks instead of dinner. She caught a small channel cat on a jig and that was the only catch(other than the bird.) Hopefully the crab pots will pan out. At least the view was beautiful!

Had a blowout sale today. I got so frustrated with battery and engine problems I told Gail I'm selling everything with a motor! ð Sold the cc boat, jet ski, and Explorer. Had to put a new battery in the jet ski. The Explorer broke down while someone was test driving it today. Had to get a jump from one of the neighbors down the road and I dropped the price just to get rid of it. Just had a guy come from Coco Beach with a trailer to take it off my hands. I swear it must be this wet air down here that destroys everything. I had left a DeWalt battery down here with a charger to use on a light. The battery is dead and won't charge and it's not even that old. First DeWalt battery I've had quit on me. So now we're down to just the new pontoon and kayaks. ð

Isn't it crazy how Florida heat and humidity affect stuff. My sister has a garage to keep a small car and stuff in or she would be in the same shape.

Gail drove the pontoon to the ramp yesterday to get it out. She might make a good hand yet! ð

Here we go again. ð Astor is already flooded due to all the rain we've been getting all summer and now here comes Helene. They've closed down the boat ramps in town due to the conditions. Makes me glad I never pulled the trigger on any of the overpriced waterfront properties there.

Everybody need a break from this stuff! My sis is still in Florida. Can't get on Siesta Key yet to see if their condo is OK, but since it is on the 2nd floor and they had hurricane proof windows installed a few years ago, they assume it is still there. Their house inland 7 miles only sustained some landscape damage.

Their house inland 7 miles only sustained some landscape damage. That's good to hear! I was wondering. Hopefully the condo is good. We still don't have power and it will be 48 hours as of midnight tonight so it looks like everything in the freezer will need pitched. I won't be leaving crappie or anything else good down there during hurricane season again.

Someone flew a drone over Astor today. Wow. They called Irma in 2017 the "1,000 year flood." That record flooding has been beaten in 2022 with Ian and now 2024 with Milton. I saw a post from Volusia County Emergency Management today saying the river will continue to rise before cresting Oct 22-24. These north winds are not doing us any favors. www.facebook.com/share/r/WCNw5wHiHZrhvVcn/
