Went out this evening with my bow, was really hoping to tag something and let it hang in this cold weather. Had a fawn and 2 does come in around 4:30 and stayed about 40 yards out eating acorns until after dark. Got ready to draw back a couple times, but there was always a twig or something in the way. Heard that Monty and Sam are following a blood trail.

Well the combine finally made it's grand appearance this afternoon! Got in a tree shortly after 3pm and only seen 1 deer; a small 3 point. He went busting by the first time through the woods basically running from 1 field to another. Then the combine switched fields and the 3 came back. I let him go. I'll probably regret it because I really enjoy the jerky I make.

It amazes me the number of fields that still have standing corn. There's a field a little north of Worthington on 67 that still has standing beans.

That's the problem my buddy "yoteslayer" is having who's trail cam pics I posted in the members area. He's still surrounded by corn. The farmer's wife told him at work yesterday that they're picking it this week regardless of moisture content....so he's pretty excited.

Just got in from a mid-day hunt. Saw 1 deer around 2:00 and watched it go right under the stand Chase shot his buck from. Looked like that scrub buck I've saw a couple times. I would've took it.

Monty just sent me this dandy that one of his buddies got. I think he lives over by the Greene/Sullivan line, so I'm not sure what county it was?

Congrats Matt! Nice buck and thanks for sharing the story. So who was it in your stand?? I still do not know for sure but I do know they have permission because they were parked in the landowners back yard that morning. I only have permission to hunt that particular woods in bow season. The good news is they have not come back since that day

Was driving home from work tonight and took the "country route." Came to a stop sign at a road we locals call "slab road"....looked right and 2 does were trotting down the road....I just watched them go by like I was watching a car go by.....and then I just busted out laughing!

Still out trying to fill my 2nd archery tag. Invited forky to dinner tonight......and WHIFFED AGAIN!! Same exact spot as my last miss, but this one was different. I had sprayed some doe estrous in front of my stand, so I knew if I could get a buck there he would stop to sniff. Forky came in to the oak at 45yds that all the deer are hitting, and I gave him a couple bleats and here he comes. He stops to sniff and I pull back, and he turns and steps towards me. I'm holding forever and when he finally turns broadside I go to squeeze the release and my bad shoulder gives out at the exact same time....missed by a mile. I'm not posting this video. He only runs off about 30 yards, so I'm trying to grunt him back over. I can tell he wants to come back and sniff that doe pee again. He stays 40 -50 yards off, stomping around, until it's getting too dark to see him. By then I can tell that there's 2 deer over there now and I'm thinking it's probably the button buck I'd seen earlier. One of the deer run off to the field and snorts. The other one is coming to me. It's coming the same way forky had come earlier, but then stops at the downed tree and goes behind me. I've got a few minutes of shooting time left, but it's getting close and is really dark. I stand up and turn to face the deer, thinking that forky will appear and give me another shot. Instead, when it finally walks from behind the downed tree...all I see is antler! This is definitely not forky. He's at 20yds in the open and I pull back and....can't even find my peep site. Too dark. I let back down and he runs off a little and then disappears into the night. I'm pretty sure it's the 10 I posted a pic of in the members area that was checking the scrape.

Well im kind've behind here but i figure ill just group all these into one post. So tuesday i went out and had a little 5 point come out and figured with shotgun closing soon i may as well just shoot it. dropped it where it stood. Then Thanksgiving morning i got back out there and smoked a doe fawn to fill one of my doe tags. Then yesterday morning i figured i may as well give it one more go round for shotgun seeing as i have to work all day saturday and sunday and ended up blasting a really fat doe at about 9. i think she weighed around 150 field dressed. blew about a 4 inch hole in her side for the entrance wound and didnt have an exit. i was using a cva wolf .50 cal on all three with 150 grains of powder and a tompson center expander bullet. this big girl and her fawn snuck up on me as i was in the stand and i didnt see them until they were 15 yards away. i shot her at about 10 yards. if i wouldve have another doe tag and a shotgun i couldve had her fawn as well. Then to add a little salt to the wound when i looked to my right after the shot there was a nice looking buck at about 30 yards standing broad side but oh well.... heres the pics of the last deer. when i took this picture her fawn was only about 5 yards to my right staring at the dead doe. you can kindve see the hole in her back. I know the shot was high but its sighted in for 150 yards not 5 haha. I'm still unsure if ill buy another anterless tag and go in muzzleloader. This is the first time ive ever been tagged out in shotgun season. Im not sure what im going to do with myself for the rest of the season lol.
