I have a feeling it's gonna be a little slow until the fields are cut. Sat on a freshly cut cornfield this evening where I saw a half dozen does last night. Saw nothing but a coon though. Be back out tonight!

I went saturday evening and they were pickin beans across the road. Walking to my stanbd at 5 o clock and walked up on a doe in the beans dropped to the ground dropped my pack nocked an arrow and crawled up to about 30 yards of her. drew my bow and stood up slowly. She looked at me, i took my shot and it was headed right weere i wanted it to go but when the arrow was about 20 feet from her she spun away from me and the arrow landed behind her shoulder and hit her brisket clipped the very front of one of her lungs. Didnt find the arrow. waited an hour and followed little drops of blood for 50 yars then got into some good blood with bubbles/foam in it. then it slowly turned back into drops of blood until i could not find any more blood. Then I grid searched the area where last blood was and didnt find anything. I think she will heal up and she will be alright..they are tough animals. I tracked her about 300 yards and looked for her for about 3 hours. UGhhh If i would have had a gun i would have killed her but i just dont have as much fun using a gun it doesnt seem very challenging to me.

The wind wasn't right for the spot I wanted to try this evening, so I went to the buddy stand that overlooks a oak grove hoping that I'd catch a buck slipping out of bed for a early snack. Unfortunately, a deer was already bedded there in a blow down. Couldn't tell what it was, but it sure looked and sounded big busting through the brush. Didn't see anything else but a couple squirrels, geese, and dad on his atv. Notice something missing in the pic? I seem to be making it an annual thing of forgetting my harness on my first trip of the year.

I'm glad to see you're a fixed blade man.
I jumped a bunch of deer in the hay field as I was walking in Tuesday morning. One of them sounded like a horse galloping through the field, so I suspected it was a buck. Needless to say, that hunt was ruined before it began.

I'm glad to see you're a fixed blade man. NAP Thunderhead Edge. We have a pack of NAP Spifire that I was going to try this year, but decided to not fix what wasn't broke. I had a bad experience with expandables when I first started bow hunting and have shot fixed blades ever since. Switched to Montec G5 and then thunderheads when Chase started making videos for NAP.

Got a late start this evening(had to run to Linton and give Chase a jump. ) Had a couple yahoos riding an old 4-wheller and 3-wheeler across peoples property out here. Thought they was going to come right in the woods with me, but they ended up across the road back in the stripper hills. Funny thing is....the 3-wheeler never did come back....2 went in and only the 4-wheeler came out. Hope he's ok....trespassers are people too. Had a couple does out in the beanfield after it quieted down. Thought for sure I was gonna get a shot, but they ended up hung up under an oak eating acorns at 50+ yards til after dark. Kicked up another doe out of the beans while walking home. It was another hot one!

Thursday night I got a late start also. Dad had just picked a few rounds around a corn field, So I decided to set up on the ground there. I got there about 545 and busted up several in the field. About 715 a parade of does came around the corner of the standing corn. All 13 of them were within 50 yards and up to about 20, including one HOSS old doe I would've loved to shoot. She was leading them all around, but there were way to many eyes and I couldn't get drawn back. Eventually a fawn wandered up to about 5 yards and before I knew it, all eyes were on me. And that dang old doe busted me! Oh well, great experience! It's what I go out for, anyways.

I wasn't planning on hunting anymore this week, but work called yesterday evening and canceled my Saturday OT, so I grabbed my stuff and hit the woods. Ended up with 3 does in the woods with me eating acorns but they stayed just out of range until just after dark when 1 walked right through my shooting lane. Thought they had left, but as I was lowering my bow from the stand I got the ol' snort. This morning I got a late start and ran off some turkeys from in front of the buddy stand. They were calling to each other for about an hour after. Nothing but squirrels after that. Was going to pop one but they would take off every time I tried switching arrows(not wasting a broadhead on a tree rat. ) Last night a tree frog was on the stand....I wouldn't have minded sharing the stand...but it bailed pretty quick.

Could of whacked a couple fawns last night. Funny thing was that I didn't see them together until they had been in the woods with me over an hour. I kept wondering how that little deer was moving around so fast! Remember the Duck Dynasty "Termites and Taxidermy" episode? I had an experience like the taxidermy visit last night. All I can say is that is one proud spike buck.....I couldn't stop looking at it.

Thursday night I sat over a cut corn field. I put my climber on the opposite side I wanted to, due to wind direction. Two does stepped out at about 300yds opposite side of the field from me, but they kept looking behind them like something else was coming. Eventually I saw somethimg, and through my camera I saw it was a nice 8 point. He bedded down though, and waited for the does to get out to the middle of the field and for it to get almost dark to come out into the open.. He closed the distance across the field fast though! But soon he was at 100 yds, hung up, and I was quickly running out of shooting light. He slowly started coming my way again, and got to my shooting lane at 30 yards. I came to full draw, but I couldn't make out him or my peep sight. He was about 10 minutes to late! I didn't want to spook any deer up leaving, but had to eventually because three does were under my stand and wouldn't leave!
Friday I sat where the buck and does came out at, but I didn't see anything but two spikes and two does, under the tree I was in Thursday..

well heres my update on whats goin on in my neck of the woods.. been sitting a stand where i would see 15 deer a night and for the past 4 days(morning+evening) i have not seen a single deer or the big bucks i had seen there a week ago. /but they have just cut the cornfield next to that stand, although the wind has not been right for it. sat there for a morning hunt and all i saw was a coyote. Hunted a diferent stand close to a woodlot that was logged out(bedding area) tried grunting and bleating and 10 minutes later had a big 10 at 25-30 yards behind me about to step into the bean field for an easy shot.Long story short wind swirled and he smelled something he just wasnt sure about and tunred back to the thick briars.. UGGHHHHHH!! So I hung a stand in the Oak trees on the opposite side of his bedding area. I have a big scrape 50 yards in front of me beddng area 100 yards away and the ground is littered with black oak acorns. Hunted this stand twice and did not see anything . WHERE DID ALL THE DEER GO? I am just waiting for them white oak acorns to drop and that stand will be HOT! it is right next to where i shot my buck last year. Got first big buck pic in my wheat plot, big 8 point at 3 am. doe activity in early-mid morning and small bucks.. Only a matter of time before big boy follows them to my food plot in daylight.. Hunted down there and saw 6 does over my wheat+corn plots in one evening. Also had the neighbor come back there and ride around on his 4 wheeler and drive straight through my turnip plot.. That doesnt make me happy is all im gonna say about that LOL
