Monty had shoulder surgery recently and is laid up for bow season, so the deer are feeling pretty safe around his place! The view from his front window today...

I had two spikes fighting in the field in front of me Thursday night, other than that a few does. Still waiting on a shot at the big boy!

Got my first deer of the year this morning. Took it with my '02 Dakota at 5:15am. Luckily just some scratches and no airbag deployment. This is my 3rd kill with a vehicle on the way to work and every single one renews my old will to whack 'em and stack 'em.

Is a Dakota a legal means of harvest in archery season?

Is a Dakota a legal means of harvest in archery season? That is the only weapon that is legal to take deer with year round

They picked the beans around us while I was working this week, so I finally got out for an early morning hunt.....and finally stuck an arrow in something. Shot a doe at 15 yards at 7:56. Complete pass thru and plenty of blood, but I'm giving her some time before I go looking. My bow made a weird sound when I pulled it back and with it still being pretty dark, I'm not 100% on the shot placement. The first thing I usually do in the stand is check my bow and make sure no limbs or leaves or anything got caught in it, but I didn't even have time to do that this morning. I've watched the footage and I think it was just the arrow making a squeaky sound as it was pulled against the rest. Need to shoot some today and get it figured out. Oh, and they left about an acre of beans by Chase's stand that were weed choked. That's gonna be a little honey hole!

Congrats Matt! Mine went maybe 80 yards, and I don't see how she made it that far with all the blood she was losing. Arrow went down thru above the shoulder and back out below the shoulder on the other side. Got meat! Now I can do some more cooking videos. She died right in one of my black morel spots.

I'm not sure I could see my pins to shoot when it is still dark like that.
She looked to be a pretty big doe.

I'm not sure I could see my pins to shoot when it is still dark like that. It wasn't nearly as dark as what it looks like in the video. Cheap camera. I could see her and the pins fine, she looked straight up at me when I pulled back....just wasn't exactly sure where the arrow hit. I couldn't believe how dark the footage was because I could see the deer on the camera screen as they were walking in. (She had a young'un with her.)

Nice doe greenedog and i have almost hit numerous deer this year with my truck they are sucked in like a magnet when i drive by i swear. good thing i got good brakes and its a small truck so its easy to stop. As for bow hunting i have been grounded the past week or so did some work to bring my grades up and been back out there the past 2 days . I put on a stalk on 5 does and shot just under one at 45 yards. If i would have ranges it im sure i would have got her. I put my 30 yd pin on her spine thought she was at 35 yards. Then I heard from a guy i am friends with thats hunts on land next to one of my other spots that he saw a guy with a bow walking thru the bean field toward my treestand. I was grounded at the time but i am going to go down there soon and park my truck where it can't be seen and im gonna video tape the guy trespassing haha then chew him out . i wouldnt be suprised if i dont have anymore stands down there. MAkes me mad some people just think they can do anything they want. but anyways i went behind the house last night becasue i didnt have time to drive to that spot and walked up on my corn +wheat food plots and counted about 6-8 white tails waving as they ran off through the woods out of the corn lol Sat there the rest of the evening and had a doe come in at last light. let her walk at 30 yards becasue it was too warm to let her hang if i killed her. So i sat there in the daark waiting for her ot leave and 20 min after dark the big 8 point i have on my trail cam walks by my stand and stands at 25 yards eating wheat broadside the whole time. then chases the doe around and circles my stand for about an hour .didnt get out til 8 30 or so. I figure i got a good chance at killing him with all the does visiting the plot in daylight. But All i could see of him was a big black body and just a big white blotch glowing in the dark on its head lol I wasnt able to check my trail cam but im sure it got pics of him he walked right in front of it. I had a buck bomb doe in estrus sprayed on a scent wick hanging next to me and the buck and doe walked directly downwind of me and never smelled me i like to spray it on my boots when i get close to my stand.

Driving home from work tonight I saw a nice buck and doe out in the middle of a bean field in Vigo County. No hanky panky....they were just both eating beans.
