Happened to me last year...twice! Missed a decent buck at 35 yds (misjudged the yardage) and then missed a giant at 25 yds. It can happen to any of us at any given time.

Looks like an active evening.
How deep is that pond?

We call it the "dried up pond." It didn't have any water in it until the 3.5 inches of rain last week.

Looks like a good watering hole...when it has water.

Go get 'em Lee! I was a little peeved tonight. I don't hunt on evenings that I have to work the next day(don't want to be tracking when I have to get up at 4:25am the next morning.) Anyhow, was suppose to work OT tomorrow and they called me off at 4:45 this evening. Too late to hit the woods when the sun sets in an hour. I'm gonna hit it hard starting Sunday....got 5 days to kill my buck before...

I know what you mean. I've had people at work ask why I don't hunt during the week and it's simply a time issue. By the time I'd get over to the folks', walk back and get settled in I would have maybe an hour tops and that's if I leave work on time (which hasn't been happening lately...sort of). My sister also informed me the other day I may have a tag a long with me on opening morning; my 12 year old niece. She is starting to show interest and my bro in law took her last year but all she did was fall asleep in the stand. We'll see if she still has the interest on opening morning. Might be an opening evening hunt for her.

I'm gonna get a early jump on 'em. Started and ended my work week today....went in and things had really slowed down and they were asking for volunteers to take time off....my hand was up before I knew what was happening. Now I get 7 days in PRIME TIME for my "buck quest!"

Good luck, Greenie. From what I've been reading things are really starting to heat up in the woods.

Saw 3 bucks before 9am, unfortunately the only decent one saw me before I saw him....or at least I think so. I was reaching to turn on the camera and he walked away and I couldn't call him back. Looked like a decent 10. The wind moved around to the south, so I'm home fixing some red beans 'n rice and drinkin' coffee then I'm moving to my south facing stand.

Bucks were moving tonight! I was hunting a stand I just hung last weekend. On the way in I saw a doe, then a nice 10 pushing another doe on a ditchline. Got in the stand and as I was pulling my bow up I saw movement. Turned out to be a spike that I grunted/bleated in once then when he left I rattled him back, where he was ran off by a nice 8! That never came in range. Not long later I heard what I was sure was a buck walking, so I grunted and touched the horns together a couple times. They bit, a small 7 and a basket rack 3 came in, circled around, licked my steps (had doe pee on the boots) before leaving. The last hour or so was really slow though, no deer. OF course, I was in such a hurry to get in the stand I decided to leave the camera at home....

Bucks were moving early here. Saw 3 before 9am and that was it. Heard one gruntin' as shooting time was coming to a close. It was a long day in the stand....but still better than work!
