Well I noticed that every pond and even the creek was locked up with ice this morning on my way to work. Looks like a warm up this weekend though and the forecast doesn't show any ice making weather in the near future. I knew it was a pipe dream to get on the ice soon, but I'm looking forward to it.

Headed to Greene Sullivan State Forest Monday after work for the yak's maiden voyage. Got on the water at about 5PM in search of gills and crappie. My first fish boated on the kayak was a dink gill, but it was nice to get some slime on it. Caught a few more dinks on red-worms about 12ft down. My biggest gill actually came on my crappie jig that was bouncing the bottom directly below the boat. I got up a little late Tuesday morning, but I think I managed to get on the water by 8:30. The weather was nicer than what was forecast. I explored more of the lake. I thought I had a bead on the red ears for a minute, but after two, one after the other, the bite stopped. Couldn't get anymore after that. This trip was more about the kayak than the fish. My initial thoughts on the new ride were: a. It's big and heavy. Trying to man handle it is like wrestling a greased pig. Just confirmed my plan to build a kayak cart. b. The seat is comfortable. I had no problems with my back whatsoever. c. The storage compartment in the middle of the boat opens into the hull of the boat. There are foam blocks that prevent stuff from sliding forwards and backwards, but not side to side. I could not reach some things in that compartment from my seat. I will need to drop a box in that compartment to make it accessible. d. I need one more rod holder in front of me, in addition to the one it came with. e. I can't wait until next spring to get it on more water.

I'll report back Wednesday about the seat and the rest of the boat. Tomorrow will be my first trip in it.

finally pulled the trigger on a new Ascend FS 12T from Bass Pro. Dropped off at the house yesterday. I've been talking about getting one for about three years now so it was passed due to get it. I have Cabin #1 booked for next Monday night at the Narrow Lake Campground in Greene-Sullivan State Forest. Plan on taking it's maiden voyage then. Weather permitting I will be fishing good part of Tuesday there as well. So swing by and say "hi" and wet a line if you're in the area.

Hi all. Not sure why it's taken me so long so sign up over here. Go by hilly77p on IA. I've had the pleasure of fishing with Troy a couple times as well as a couple other members on here. I really like fishing big gills and catfish. Past couple years I've spread into bass and crappie. Last winter I ice fished for the first time and had a blast. Hope to keep with it this winter. Live in southwest monroe county and work in greene county. I look forward to participating on this board.
