NBC had a segment on Tannerite this morning in an "investigative report." Better stock up now, because it sounds like some folks are getting their panties in a wad over it.

There has to be other places holding those crappie, that's what was so frustrating about Sunday. I think you can rule out the west side of the highway though. Although, I did get bumped a few times from some big fish, I'm assuming carp or bowfin. The picture with the timber was about 6 feet deep, but it was only about a 6 foot wide area down the middle. If you deviate outside of that you're immediately in 1-2' of water. I just don't know if it is worth hauling a kayak to fish the place when you can catch messes right off the highway. Seems like that first 50 yards to the east of the highway is the most productive.

Hiked out to small lake in the national forest yesterday. Caught one dink. .5+ mile round trip trudging through the woods. I am beat today. I think I'm done with ice fishing this year. Time to gear up the kayak.

Found 5-6" of good ice under a couple inches of gray ice. Just hit one pond and caught dinks. Need a fishin buddy for tomorrow. Anyone going out?

Sucks to hear about the bug and ice, Greenedog.
I think I'll head out tomorrow afternoon and scout out Monroe and Lawrence County. I'll report back what I find.

Good luck and be safe! I've seen reports from Martinsville down to Bedford and people are saying it is very uneven ice. Hopefully, these frigid nights are making things more consistent.

A lady I work with runs at Shakamak almost everyday. She says there were several people on Shakamak and Kickapoo fishing all day Saturday. Apparently the pond I checked Friday night just isn't a good ice maker. I think I'll run out to the forest or Shakamak one evening this week and give it a go.

Checked one of my ponds this evening and it was nothing but junk ice. I hope I can get on next weekend.

I think I'll run to some of the ponds in the National Forest tomorrow after work to see if there is any chance to get on this weekend. If they aren't good for this weekend I think next weekend they will be. Forecast looks good to make ice, I just hope we don't get anymore snow.

I've had the Sony Action Cam for a little over a year now. It came with basic editing software that you download to the computer. It links up with Youtube and uploads with just a couple clicks. It was fairly easy to figure out, even for an non-savvy computer guy like me.

The non-motorized permits are $5 as opposed to the motorized that are $20. Don't know the reason why but I'm guessing it ensures that DNR properties that are electric only and more likely to bring in paddlers will still bring in money off of folks who use the water.
