well those are water proof, but even with the insulated inserts, their not that warm. If you really want a good pair, go to a military surplus store, and get a set of GORTEX insulated combat boots. You wont regret it.

Anthony, you give a thumbs down for 9mm but talk up a .38!?!? They are similar in diameter and the 9mm generaly fly 1 -200 FPS faster therefore brings more terminal energy to the target. All things considered, when comparing the two rounds, they are very similar. "Stopping power" is a myth...or unquantifiable! Correct me if I'm wrong, slash my tires and besmirch my name, but a properly loaded .38 Special should be SUPERIOR to any Nine. IN Speer number 11, I see a 38 160 gr soft point bullet at 1028 fps. I see a 124 gr 9 mill at 1224 fps. And that is the fastest NIne heavy weight I saw in 5 or 6 reloading manuals. Now, I'm not even going to do the math here- even when their energy is about the same the 38 makes it with a far heavier slug. And the Hornady shows a Nine with a 147 gr bullet at only 1000fps, well behind the plus P 38. Now, I could flip around and find pet loads for each cartridge, but I think in general the 38 Plus P edges out the Nine. The nine offers larger mag capacity. I think the 38 a more significant hit. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. As for stopping power being a "MYTH," you are WRONG. A weapon and bullets stopping power play a key role in the deciding factor for nearly 100% of all weapon buyers. If stopping power was just made up, then we would all still be running around with sling shots and blow guns. If it was a "MYTH" our soldiers and officers would be getting issued pea shooters instead of the proper tools for the job. It is hypothetically possible for the impact of a bullet to cause a pressure pulse of such magnitude through the body of the target, that it is instantly killed (notice I deliberately avoided the word "shock"). This happens, for example, when you shoot a chipmunk with a .30-`06, even if the chipmunk wears body armor. I'm confused...Is that still UNQUANTIFIABLE???

I.M.O. 9mm = They just don't have the knock down power that I would want for a defense gun. Now, are they fun and SEMI affordable, HECK YES! With that said, If your lookin for a home/self defense gun, I.M.O. you cant go wrong with a 38 spl. or a 45 acp. I keep one of each throughout the house within short reaching distance. Those ruger Mark III's are SWEET! I have a 22/45 and its a BLAST to shoot. The first few times you break it down to clean it can be a bit of a hassle, but there are plenty of videos on youtube if you get confused. another 22 to look @ is the Walther P22. Its pretty much a duplicate of the P99 only 3/4 the size. You can get it in the 3.4 inch barrel, or get it with the conversion with the 5 inch barrel and stabalizer. I am a BIG supporter of this gun. I am SO comfortable with this weapon, ITS the ONE that sleeps under my side of the bed. As far as Gander Mountain goes, I think most everyone on here knows how I feel about buying guns from them....Before you buy from them, go check out Danny Favre's (812-235-0198) and see if you can get a better deal. He's pretty good priced, and keeps a good assortment of toys. There's also a new shop in Brazil right off 40, its called the Outpost (812-236-1673) he also has a few nice things. IF you do decide you want to buy a nine, shoot me a message. I have a buddy at work wanting to sell his Taurus, I'll get you his info if your interested. GOOD LUCK, and SAFE SHOOTIN!
