Haven't did many duck hunts due to chasing deer and just haven't seen a lot of ducks until this week. That early week cold snap must of pushed some down. My father-in-law called me last night and said he seen quite a few on our pond. Did a solo hunt this morning and there were a bunch of ducks in the air. I killed 3 mallards even with a less than favorable wind. NW works best on our place and I got just the opposite. Could have gotten an easy limit but I was in "save the susie" mode and only shot drakes, plus I let the rain push me out a little early. When I got to the truck I saw about 150 in the air. Sorry no pix, forgot the camera. I'll try to remember it tomorrow.

I'm not sure I'm liking this central zone that I have been moved into. I went the first morning and there just wasn't enough birds down (killed one.) Now there is and I'm still deer hunting. The last two nights on the deer stand I've been hearing this Hen "highbawling" and can't wait to get back in the duck blind but I have a buck tag to fill. Buck or Duck? I guess it's a good problem to have but under the old seasons i could do both and mot miss out.

Had a dr. appointment today so I took off this morning to hunt. Saw six including a little buck I let pass. Saw a biggun on the way to my app. then went back this evening. Hunted some property we have on the river, it requires a 4X4 and a 1/2 mile drive off the main road to get to our property. I get back there and settle into a tree with a lot of promise. Wind is perfect and there is a ton of buck sign in the area. I just get settled in the tree when this dog shows up and lays down right under my tree. I start throwing things at it trying to get it to leave, including my grunt call which it picks up and carry's about 15 feet before it drops it then returns under my stand and appears to take a nap. It lays there all afternoon, needless to say I get down early because there is no way I will get a shot with that thing hanging around unless it sleeps through the whole thing, plus I wanted to retrieve my grunt call. The dog follows me back to my truck and to add insult to injury it Pi$$es all over my tires then runs right in my headlights all the way back to the road. That thing is lucky I like dogs. From my tree stand.

Big Time! Saw 3 bucks chasing same doe last Thursday, 2 more different bucks in the same woods Sat. Had a little buck @ 15 yards Wed. night and saw a small 8 grunting and chasing a doe in my yard Thursday morning. Tonight I had a big shooter 8 come through @ 5:20 50 yds away then as I was climbing out 2 does come busting thru with a big buck grunting with every step. Not sure if it was the big 8 or not, hope not cause he was just as big. These were followed by a small buck a minute later grunting with every step. The are definatley doing their thing. Not to mention a big one and a smaller 8 I saw from the road this week in the BB&B area.

Didn't hunt to night in that wind but as me and my boy headed to the wood shed (not because he had one coming) to bring in a load of wood for the stove, I noticed this fresh scrape. This next one shows the licking branch in relation to the house, about a 30 yd shot from my bedroom window. Found another in the back corner of the yard.

Me, my brother and my boys spent the day building our dock, now we are just waiting for it to fill up. Will probably take all winter, we are about 3' low right now.

Not only does he still wear the hat but looks almost exactly the same has he did back in the GnR days. The rest of those guys didn't age as gracefully. Especially Axl, kinda like Elvis near the end only with too much "plastic."

Was doing a little shooting last week and my 7 year old son Will got his bow out. On his first shot he would've taken this buck right in the carburetor. His very next shot was a little high and a lot right. He made a clean kill on his little brothers toy loader.

This past winter we had our old hog finishing building torn down and since we had an excavator on sight thought we would do a little work on the pond. Willow trees and cat tails had practically taken the pond over making it hard to fish. The pond was pretty shallow as well so we decided to take out most of the trees. Unfortunatly it left the pond in pretty rough shape. Since the water was so low this summer and we had some other work needing done, this past week with the track hoe and a dozer on sight we decided to do a little expansion. We think this will probably double the amount of water in the pond. We also had the track hoe set a couple post from the old building to build a dock.

Troy, I caught a yellow perch through the ice on kickapoo several years ago. That's the only one that I have ever heard of being caught.

I have this week off and about two weeks of work to get done but Troy and Colton inspired Willy and I to squeeze in a little fishin. Willy took a tumble last week and ended up with a broken collar bone so his right arm is in a sling. His biggest worry was that he would not be able to fish He adjusted to casting left handed pretty quickly and he and I were able to bring home a mess for the fryer. Here is Willy with one of two nice crappie... Here I am holding a couple of our better gills...

Me and the boys were out in the yard doing some work when we heard a comotion in our woods. Looked to see two eagles flying out of the woods. They landed again and I was able to take this photo. Looks like a young female. The male was above her in the same tree but we didn't see him until he took off. Here is a picture of the male as they soared above our pasture. I saw one about a mile down the road a couple of years ago just standing out in a field and have seen one here one other time.

Hadn't seen hide nor feather of this critter all winter, even having ran beagle dogs several times and even two quail hunts. Got home from work today around 4pm and there he was in my yard. After parking the car we watched him pick his way through the corn stubble in front of our house. Can't see how it could be a different one but really surprised he made it through the winter especially with all the predators around here.
