The buck I shot on the 30th of October was cruising and running his scrapes. I grunted and bleated to him and I think he was coming to check me out. Seen some bucks crossing road while driving at night. They are definitely starting to rut, but still moving kind of late evening/early morning. This week will be best chance at a nice buck. Last year I seen the most buck activity from November 8th - start of gun season.

Nice! Me and a couple friends had "duck camp" this weekend and had a blast. We didnt get a lick of sleep, but we were cracking up the whole time and havin fun. It was my first time duck hunting. We set up in a place that was supposed to be a wood duck honey hole, but we didnt see any wood ducks. At shooting light we had two mallards soar in and we shot both, seen others but wouldnt come in. We also checked out this little pond and jumped about 30+ wood ducks off it. with no shotguns to shoot them. I left today but my friend called me and said they went to the same pond this evening and jump shot 6 woodies.

Punched my buck tag tonight! Sat in the stand where I had seen "Boomerang", the deer I passed twice last year to grow, and wouldnt you know it, he showed up at about 6:55. I had been sitting there listening to squirrels scampering in the dry leaves all evening, when I detected the cadence of a cruising buck strolling through the woods. I knew it was a buck! He was walking along the field about 20 yards inside the edge of the woods to me ( I would not have a shot unless he stepped into field) Then he sounded like he was turning away going downhill, so I grunted and also threw in a doe bleat. I then heard the crunching of leaves and sticks cracking and looked behind me to see him walking in to me across the hillside through the woods. I preset the camera over my shooting lane, hit record and got ready. He came by his scrape and entered the field circling around in front of my stand about 23 yards out. I drew my bow when he passed behind a big sycamore tree, then when he entered the shooting lane I tried to stop him twice, but I was so nervous I screwed up and shot while he was still moving after he didnt stop on the second grunt. He walked off 40 yards and stood with his head down for 5 minutes, then started breathing hard and swaying side to side , then bedding down. I backed out and came back 3 hours later with a crew to help me. Turns out I got into the guts and part of the liver. Thank God I got the liver. He was stiff as a board. I think he was dead shortly after bedding down, but I did not want to jump him and lose him. Heres a pic of him. As well as a pic of him form last year. I will put the video together and post it on here when I get time! Attachments:

Killed a hen this morning. I got it on video, but the video isnt all that great. I sat where I had seen them come in and scratch the morning before and sure enough they came back like clockwork. I gave them some soft yelps on the mouthcall and got an answer from a hen. I hit her right back and then had others answering me, and saw this one come RUNNING off the hill straight to me, yelping the whole way. Hard to get on it with the camera and find it with all the brush around, but I finally got it and then I let my new shotgun eat. About a 40 yard shot, she weighed 8 pounds according to our bathroom scale. Idk if thats accurate or not but It cant be far off. Plucked her out, gonna cook it in the oven. Man, that was freakin exciting though! She came smokin through the woods right to me, HAd my heart pounding when I first heard em answer my calls, and I knew they were comin. But I was pretty calm once it came time to close the deal I'll post video later. Attachments:

I actually hit too low, i think. Shot was exactly where i wanted, but I was not sure on the range before the shot, I thought it was 30, but then remembered ranging it and being more like 20 so i put the 20 on it and i think it was a touch farther and i hit lower than I should have. Didnt end up finding it. After following a zig zag bloodtrail I saw it get up from laying down and hopple off and lay down again. I had taken my turkey gun with me and went turkey hunting for an hour , then took back up the trail and thought I heard it run off again, but not sure. Blood got spotty and I just couldnt find it anymore. Oh well, haha I was really proud of myself because I thought I had made a great shot I saw the arrow tuck right in behind the front shoulder near the heart, but maybe just a touch low with the angle, plus the longer fur throws you off on where their body actually is.

Hmmmm, maybe your area doesnt have as many oaks as we do? I"m lucky to see 1-2 deer a night , if any. We are just covered up in gigantic white oak trees down here , all producing a BUMPER CROP, even trees that normally don't produce. I have not seen a deer in the bean field for awhile, nor have they been hitting the corn. I have seen does browsing in my small turnip plot of a morning. Once the acorns rot, and the does come in heat, it will def pick up

Tonight I had an observation that pretty much tells me what the deer are doing, and why I havent been seeing them. I climbed in my stand tonight about 4:15, got my camera arm set up, bow pulled up, and was messing with something else when I looked up and saw a doe fawn looking at me. I watched her bed down, and realized there was also a button buck with her also bedded down. They finally got out of bed about 5 and walked by me at 10 yards and up to a white oak tree to eat acorns. after 15 minutes of that, they ran back down the hill and bedded down in the same spot as before. About a half hour before dark they got up again and ate acorns. The doe even decided to lay down right in the field. until dark, when I climbed down with them still in the field. I walked out with them standing 25 yards away watching me. Even though I normally wait for deer to be long gone before I get down, these were young stupid ones and I knew I could get away with it. Moral of the story is, these deer only traveled 85 yards from bed to feed all afternoon. I'd say that is probably the case for a lot of the deer right now as well.

So, there's this buck I keep seeing down at one of my best huntin spots. Most of the deer in the area just come and go, but this one tends to hang out in the same area and I see him a lot. Last year, I gave him the pass at 10 yards on October 6th and at 20 yards on October 10th. Then I watched him in the neighbors cornfield almost every night, regretting my decision to let him walk, even though I did see some better bucks later on. This year, I decided that no matter what he looked like, If i saw him I'm gonna whack im. I hunted that stand a few times this year and saw not much at all. So this morning I headed out to that property to try to find a turkey to shoot (with shotgun). I was walkin in about 30 minutes after daylight and saw this buck standing about 20 yards in front of my stand, literally directly in the shooting lane, broadside and everything. *facepalm* I got video of him walking off and making scrapes and rubs along the fenceline. After he left, I went home so as not to spook him. Got the rest of the week for fall break, hoping he will come back. Attachments:

So I was watching my doe kill video on the computer and was tinkering around with it,and realized that the doe had actually jumped the string , even though I hadnt noticed it when I shot. I paused the video as the arrow made contact, put my finger on the screen where the arrow was, and when I went back to where she was just as I let the arrow go, I found that my finger was laying right on the sweet spot, where I wanted to hit. Just goes to show how fast those deer can react. She was only 15 yards away and still managed to drop about 8-10" from the time my arrow left the bow to the time it made contact. I remember when she first came in, the wind was gusting and she was really nervous about it.

I've been out 4 times. First time out i saw a little 6 point. Second time out the wind started blowing about 30 mph and spitting rain so i went home. Third time out was a saturday morning over my food plot, spooked one right next to my stand about 10 minutes before daylight. Then had 18 hens come in and feed in the food plot at 40 yards. After the turkeys left I was standing up to stretch and was pulling my bow back and just checking to make sure everything was working ok when a doe appeared out of nowhere. I dropped her with a spine shot at about 15 yards. Got it on video but I don't like the fact that I spined her. I really didnt even do any kind of celebration because I kinda felt bad. I was shooting my bow a few days later and it was shooting a little high, idk if it had been bumped or what. But it is nice to have some meat in the freezer. I also went out yesterday to the spot where I had seen some big bucks early last year and had a small doe at 20 yards but i didnt want to mess with her on a school night.

Me and some friends went to goosepond on opening morning and shot some, but I didnt do very good, only killed 2 and knocked feathers of some others. Doves everywhere but they werent coming close enough for my modified choke, and with the steel shot I dont think my gun was holding a very tight pattern. Burnt up two boxes in no time. Also went behind the house tonight to my "private dove field", I walked up and I swear there had to of been 20+ doves take off out of there in one spot, and i havent even mowed anything down yet. Ended up with one and missed a few others, I didnt hunt very long though, just checking things out. I figured soe of you guys on here might be dove hunting at goosepond since y'all always talk about the place.
