Nice catch Bruce!! How are you landing those brutes? Do you have a big net or do you just work them into shallow water? I've got a big net like this one: www.bigcarptackle.com/store/product.php?productid=18307The mesh is a lot more fish friendly than traditional netting and doesn't get your hook, line and sinkers tangled-up. We always try to return the fish in as good of shape as possible. Thanks!

Only managed to land this one 17 pounder tonight while dodging the rain drops. Seemed like good conditions for the fish to be more active than usual, but didn't turn-out to be the case. This carp did give a good fight though!

Here's a great place to pick-up all kinds of carp fishing information: indianacarptalk.invisionzone.com/I'd agree that canned sweetcorn must certainly be the most popular bait over all. Good Luck!

"Fishing for Buffalo" by Rob Buffler and Tom Dickson Have to say that I really couldn't praise this one too highly! The title really is misleading, in that many other species are covered by the book. A real wealth of information, tactics and anecdotes about the fish that many of us enjoy and appreciate, but for various reasons...or no good reason...are not generally popular. Even if some of the species presented here aren't found in your area, it's still interesting to learn about 'em. And it might just inspire you for try for some local fish that you've ignored previously. Here in Indiana, I think the freshwater drum is an example of a fine sport fish that few people ever try to catch. The back cover: Inside:

Caught a nice mix of the available species this evening! All were released...other than a few small fish that we used for bait, that is. Jordan's spotted bass: Nice drum that hit a spinner bait: Adam's little flathead: Jordan cranked in a carp: Adam's nice 14lbs. flathead:

On Saturday, Adam and I went over to Homer Lake in Illinois, and while we blanked, at least we got to see photos of some REALLY nice fish caught there. The park and lake are both beautiful and there's very user-friendly bank space too. We'll be back sometime soon. Fished at New Castle this afternoon and did at least catch this nice 18 pounder. So, the weekend ended-up with something worthy of a post!

Jordan with a couple of the better fish he caught on a twister-tail jig: Adam's highlight was a nice sauger he caught on a crankbait. The first one we've ever caught...so it was quite a surprise! Also caught bluegill, sunfish, spotted bass and smallmouth bass. We blanked on carp and cats this time.

Adam with the only carp we caught today at New Castle. Not much, but better than getting blanked. It was on my pole, but he grabbed it first since I was in the truck keeping outta the wind and rain. Looked to be about 10lbs. Was there yesterday too...No bites.

Thanks a lot, Troy.
Hopefully we'll get together sometime soon, and you can see it in action!
Was wanting to try at Terre Haute tomorrow, but the weather looks like it's gonna be pretty bad for that.
If the weather breaks enough to get out we'll probably just stick closer to home.

Went to the river last night to christen my new set-up for the first time... Only one I caught was this little chunk. We weren't able to stay too long this time, unfortunately.

Fished by Michigan Street bridge. Adam caught the most, and the biggest one too. His largest weighed-in at 14lbs.

BTW Brutom, where did you find the pod with the strike indicators, and do you like them? Yes, they're really great as far as making the fishing very convenient and effective. Keeps the rods stable and secure on any type of terrain. And the alarms are great as far as knowing you're getting a run without having to stare at the poles all the time or having to stay real close to 'em. This place has just about everything for carp fishing: www.bigcarptackle.com/store/home.phpWestside in Indianapolis has a lot too: www.westsidebaitshop.com/
