The folks are back down on the St. Johns River in Astor, FL again this winter. I'm getting a lot more days off with my new job, so it won't be long before I'm South Bound and Down myself. I was gonna fly, but with these gas prices I'll probably just drive. Plus it would be hard to get my kayak on a plane. First day out in the fog... First of (hopefully) many... A neighbor hanging out under the dock... First mess...

It's good to see they're already pounding the slabs.

I wonder what the fee would be to fly your yak down to Florida? I want to see you catch a tilapia on it too.

If the rest of the week goes like today, I'll need to take off another week to edit all the videos!

Dad and me caught 6 more this morning. Pretty miserable conditions with it being in the 40's and windy and then we had rain for the ride back.

Saw a couple interesting things from the yak this evening....big cigarette boat and a manatee. Where I've been launching...

I tried to get closer to shoot some video, but there was a bunch of vegetation between us and they can move quicker than you think. I also saw one from the dock here at the river a couple days ago.

Are the bass biting? There are some hogs in that river. Those are some nice crappie, cool that they are all black it appears. What is the biggest so far?

The bass aren't biting for me. To be honest though, bass fishing bores me to death so I don't really give it that much time. I've thought about doing some shiner fishing for them, but at $20 a dozen if you can find them I'll probably pass. The biggest crappie since I've been here is 1# 14oz, but dad says we'll get into some 2 plus pounders before I leave. They've caught them over 3 before.

I have the same feeling about bass fishing. I do it on occasion but it really bores me to death. I like to fish for things I'm gonna eat
