Just 1/24 - 1/32oz jigs trolled at 1mph. The 2 lakes they mainly fish are only 6' deep. I guess black crappie are native to Florida, while white crappie aren't.

Yes, we didn't while I was down there, but they commonly catch catfish and bluegill with the occasional striper/wiper, pickerel, bowfin, and shiners. Oh, and mom caught a turtle a while back.

We came in today with 15 more and had 11 in the live box. When we went to clean, we lifted the live box and it was empty. This is the second time this year that otters have broken the bungee strap and cleaned us out. I guess we are either going to have to clean as soon as we come in or put them on ice. Putting them on ice works pretty well as there is no blood in the meat and helps with cleaning them up.

He's caught 3 pounders before, but it's been years since he caught one and he says if he ever does again it's going on the wall.

The folks are still tearing up the crappie down south.

Yesterday they had their best day yet, catching 30 with 3 that weighed 2.1 pounds. I think that puts their total of 2 pound plus fish at 16, which is the most they've ever caught down there. Things are looking good for them to get back in some 3 pound fish next year.

On a side note; the Crappie Masters held a tournament on the St. Johns last weekend and it was won by a team from Indiana, Matt Morgan and Kent Watson, with a 7 fish limit of 15.79!
