I felt the same about being ready, not very. I didn't get a stand put up this year or really even any scouting. All of my previous hunting spots were best for a south wind. Well I took the day off from work so I am going. I decided to go to a spot I've noticed alot of sign but never hunted. Jumped up a couple deer on the way out. 9am I had a doe walk up the trail I used to walk to the stand. She even had the wind in her favor and didn't notice. Quartering to me, not the best shot to take but I did. She ran 30-35 yards and dropped like a sack of potatoes.

I'd buy a used bow, mainly just to see if you like it. $400 and up is hard to justify for a bow if you are not sure you even like archery yet. On the plus side of buying a used bow, if you do like it after buying a new or better bow, you now have a bow for fish. Most of the name brand bows a worthy of shooting. Some people preach that you have to get a certain bow. I had an archery dealer tell me my bow was perfectly fine and there are no magical bows. I didn't buy my bow from him or even a brand he sold. He just tuned it for me. Mine is a Parker and I've had it for about 5 years now and I have no interest in upgrading just yet. I still shoot just as good as my friends that feel the need to upgrade every year. Let us know what you get and how you like it.

Where do the trout come from? I recently discovered the fish I thought was a pumpkinseed is actually a longeared sunfish. After reading up on them pumpkinseeds are fairly rare around here. The longeared sunfish is a beautiful fish though... Yeah I made the same misidentification for a long time. Beautiful fish though. The trout are stocked at the tailwaters of Cecil M Harden Lake, AKA Raccoon Lake.

Good to know they are in there. I hunt about a half mile of the creek bottom. What else do you catch? Largemouth, smallmouth, spotted, rock, white, striped bass, channel, flathead, yellow belly cats, crappie, pumpkin seed, gills, walleye, rainbow trout, carp, suckers, drum, bowfin, gar and now yellow perch. I'm sure I left a few out. I've never caught a spoonbill or sturgeon but I have heard of people hooking into them. I have also seen highfin carp suckers but never caught one.

That would be intense with a side effect equal to a laxative

No, I froze the mooneye for tomorrow. I caught the flatty on a live 7 inch creek chub in about 10ft of water on bottom.

Just north of Cagles Mill/Cataract Lake on IN-243. Looks like a log cabin/business.

Went fishing the other day and broke my favorite ultra light while casting. Not sure if I cracked it at some point and didn't know it but it was upsetting. Couple of days later I stopped at Buck and Dumb Bass to grab another ultra light rod so I could catch some crappie after work. It was a nice rod but when I got home I didn't put it up. I'm always telling my daughters to put there belongings up so they don't get broke or ran over by the mower. Well my oldest daughter was riding her bike around my truck and the new ultra light rod was hanging out of the bed of my truck and she clipped it and it snapped in half . It was a day old. I decided to just use one of my old ultra light rods that seems to be invincible and take a couple of cat rods down to the Eel River and see what else I could break. Ended up with 2 moon eyes and a nice flathead.
