Great Stories!! I have two memorable turkey hunts and one bow hunt for deer that would have to be my favorite. I was turkey hunting in Kansas(two bird limit). My buddy and I killed one each the first afternoon and my buddy had just killed his second the next morning. We just got back to the truck when we heard a gobble. It's 95 degrees the first week of April and the wind is blowing about 40mph. My buddy can talk turkey with the best of them and had the bird coming when a hen chimes in. We were between the hen and tom until she flew over our head to get to the tom. He was chasing her around in tight circles when I shot him at 60 yards uphill. Love my mossberg 835. The other turkey hunt was this spring. It was a textbook flydown call them in. There was two toms. I shot the first at about 35 yards. That's when the fun began. The other tom started running around gobbleing. when a hen ran out into the field and began yelping louder than I have ever heard. The other tom then sprinted to the dead bird and started spurring him. He then jumped on top of him and gobbled 3 times. A little turkey trash talk I guess. Like Monty I needed a camera for this one. But my favorite happened a long time ago. I was fourteen when I started to bow hunt. I drove to the mine property a few miles from my house. Oh how times have changed. You could hunt the mine property and a fourteen year old could drive. I had three arrows, shot at a basket rack twice before he ran off. Got down and picked up my arrows, then a forkhorn come out and I shot at him twice as well. The second one was a near miss and the deer spun and stepped on my arrow and broke it. I got home and told my dad that I was going to kill that buck for breaking my arrow. After a little shooting practice I went back the next night to find someone was setting in their stand. Had to find a new place. Was standing by a tree when the forkhorn came out and shot him. My dad and I tracked him that night but he crisscrossed his path and we ended up backtracking. Found him the next day with the help of a couple buddies, one of which may be on this sight but not for sure. I think the deer have gotten a little smarter since then as well.

Alright I guess Ill say one of mine.
I was hunting the rut around thanksgiving time in southern Arkansas. I was sitting in a stand with a feeder about 70 yards to my left, some 3 foot tall pines in front, and the woods behind me. Around 2 hours after we get in the stand, a few does and fawns come in, no shooters. One doe was checkin us out, wouldnt even eat because she was so nervous for some reason. so she left, and there was just a doe and her two fawns eating. From behind me, I hear something crashing through the woods, and I though it was just a squirrel, because I had been hearing them all morning. but then right under my stand, I hear what sounds like a power washer, and I look between the cracks in the stand and a 4 point is standin down there peeing! so my heart starts pumping about 30000 beats a second, and i get all shaky. he walks out from under the stand to where I cna see him clearly, off towards the doe. he starts gaining speed, then he trips and falls over! he gets up and starts grunting, and Im about to start busting out laughing. I could have got a shot, but decided to pass. he and the doe left, and I decided that if they cam back, I would shoot him. but he never did. eve nthough I didnt get a kill, still one of my best hunting memories!

My uncle jsut killed a monster doe in Arkansas. 9 years old, only the 4 front bottom teeth were there, and they were loose. 24 yard broadside shot witha 64 pound matthews, the muzzy went through her like she was butter.

that is an old deer. I think bucks hit their prime around 6 or 7. she wouldn't have made it longer if those loose teeth fell out.

It is hard to come up with the best because there have been so many, but I think this is a good one. Probably 15 years ago, my brother-in-law and I were hunting with another guy at a farm up in the northern part of the state. The other guy was one of these hunters who would never sit in his stand early or late, so I never really wanted to hunt very close to him because he spooks all the deer. There was a worn trail that both my brother-in-law and I wanted to hunt. We patterned the deer and knew they would come down this trail just before dark. We argued for awhile about who was going to be able to hunt it. We decided we both would. There was a huge old oak that both of us got up in and sat on separate branches. We agreed that he would take the first deer in line and I would take the second. Sure enough 5 deer were in a line coming down the trail. I put my shotgun barrel on a branch and counted to three. We both fired at the same time and dropped two does from the same tree at the same time! We then went back to the cabin to find our other buddy already there as usual. We played cards for awhile and then were going to sleep in preparation for an early morning hunt the next day. The guy would not turn off the lantern in the cabin. I asked him nicely several times to turn off the light before some cussing ensued. He told me he could feel the heat coming off the lantern. It was like 30 degrees and the heat from the lantern was limited at best. My brother-in-law was laughing hysterically at me about this lantern. The lantern burned all night. The next morning my brother-in-law told me that this big, burly guy was afraid of the dark! That is why he never goes into the woods before dark and never stays until it is dark! I felt terrible about what I said to this guy, but we are still friends.
