Does anyone know if the bucks are starting to chase does or are they still in that early stage?

I don't think so yet, should be soon though, because i have as well been seeing lots of does with no bucks chasing them. a good map to check out every week is this Rut map they have on versus.com, they update it every week, here is the link, www.versus.com/blogs/rut-map/

Nothing happening around here that I've seen any evidence of. Should start getting interesting in a week or two. I have one area that I have stayed completely out of waiting on the right time.

According to the Rut map i posted about earlier, we are in the early rut now.

I don't believe that rut map, it shows all the midwest being in pre-rut 3 weeks ago and that is not the case. pre-rut just started, that is when the little bucks start rubbing everywhere and making little scrapes on every tree with outward limbs. Early-rut gets the bigger bucks involved, I do believe we are approaching the early-rut however the pre-rut just started last week. Usually it is opposite, the bucks are ready for rut before the hunters realize it. This years cooler weather has us expecting it early. I would look for it to start about the 7th of Nov. then the big bucks will start chasing. Always remember the little bucks are the teenage boys of the deer world, they will look down every blouse shown and up every skirt. Regardless if they are really ready or not.

The second week of November is usually when the peak is, not when it just starts... well that's what Ive heard anyway.

Depends on who you are talking to hunterguy, alot of people will call it peak because thats when they see the most bucks chasing, during the final days of Early Rut. Peak rut involves the actual breeding, there is no more chasing and deer in general seem to disappear as they "lock down" this is the time they say to be in the woods all day. Because once that doe is bred the buck is off again, regularly in mid-day, trying to find another doe while they are ready.
However this is an age old arguement, I always just tend to follow the moon and it hasn't led me wrong yet. We are close though the older does should be coming in soon, but i believe the majority will come in later into Nov. Good Luck and Good Hunting.

I think the answer to your question is starting to sound like YES. Last night I saw a small buck chasing does. It sounded like what Poseiden was saying though, the does were running like fawns playing and the buck was chasing everything in sight. A buddy of mine killed an impressive, main frame 8 with 13 scorable points yesterday after having a real good 10 scared away by 3 yotes. I also talked to a buddy of mine that runs G2 taxidermy in Dugger. He said that he had 7 bucks in so far and that 2 came the first week of season but the other 5 in the last two days. Tonight I didn't see a deer but did see two fresh scrapes that were not there the last time I hunted the property. In short, "the does aren't in heat but the bucks are on their feet."
