Flat bottom Jon Boat for sale. Comes with older Minn Kota trolling motor, deep cycle marine battery, and seats. $375. Had it out today on the lake, no leaks. One of the Alligator clips broke on the trolling motor, but that is an easy fix. The boat is already registered for this year as well. P/U is in Terre Haute.

Went out for several hours today and caught around 15 bluegill and bass. 3-4 of the bass were caught on a chigger craw while the others were caught on bobber and minnow/beemoth. Windy as crap out there.

I've grown up fishing Shakamak's lakes and it's had a 12-15" slot limit for as long as I can remember. As far as I'm concerned, it's been a huge failure. I'd guess that 90% of the bass caught there are in that 12-15" range that can't be kept. No idea how they came up with that 12-15" slot range, but a more sensible protected range to me would be 14-17" slot and then only allow one bass kept over 20". The only thing I have came up with is that the 12-14" is may the optimum reproduction stage in a bass' life to produce better offspring? Who really knows. I just know something needs to be done so all these stunted 11-12" bass aren't the only size fush we continue to catch.

That "slot limit" is exactly what I contacted fisheries biologist Dave Kittnia about a few months ago. I explained to him that the GSSF area is a great resource to have, but that the slot limit needs to be implemented as I always catch several bass, just that they are 11-12 inches in length, which is just shy of the legal size of 14 inches. He was very quick to get back to me, and I will see if I can find the email he returned to me in regards to my concerns of having fished the area for nearly 30 years of my life.

Congrats! Good to hear the bass are starting to bite. Good luck at Patoka, are you gonna bass fish there? Yes planning on that and crappie fishing. I have been to Patoka just never fishing. Should be fun. Supposed to be 6-8 of us going. One buddy and myself are planning on staying all weekend and fishing Sat-Mon if the weather will cooperate.

Went fishing Saturday and started off with nothing on the ol' Pig and Jig. Went to a private strip pit with some buddies of mine. Switched to a KVD crankbait and caught two bass within about five minutes of each other. My other buddy caught 3, and the other one had one on, but got him wrapped so he ended up with zero. Regardless, great day to get out on the water. Planning on going to Patoka in a week and a half with a group of 6 guys and three boats. Should be fun.

As my cousins from Michigan would say: "Those are some nice specs." Nice and early and already catching fish!

I'd like to find a mess of crappie, so hopefully the weather will be warm enough to melt the ice that is left in the area. One can only hope. You going to a private pit or public you reckon?

Anybody planning on going fishing this weekend? I haven't looked at the forecast, but hopefully mother nature cooperates and some of us can get out. Doubtful I will, but there is a chance.

Me neither! And I don't mind buying my yearly fishing license mind you. However, I just think it would be nice to get some bang for my buck. I mean, we have one of the best (in my opinion) pieces of state ground within minutes of us, and it isn't being utilized the way it could. I feel the same way about the goosepond as well and always will. I was hoping that would be turned into a reservoir when they first started talking about it. I have nothing against bird watching and wetlands, but the amount of great fishing and recreational activities as well as jobs that could have came from that project would have been astounding. They could have still kept 1,000 acres as wetlands or shallows and still had the positive effects they have had to date. Just my two cents though.

^ That is a nice rod. I did forget that I ordered a Do-It No-Snag Mold for 1, 1.5 and 2 oz sinkers from Bottom Dwellers. Just came in yesterday. It was $43 on the every site I went to, even from Do-It.com. Bottom Dwellers was $27.50. I definitly lost more than $27 in sinkers last year due to snags on the Eel River and Cagles Mill tail waters. Now I need to find soft lead at a good price. I collected 3 20oz coffee cups of deformed lead sinkers at Cecil Hardens tail water, time to start casting sinkers. Sweet

Minnehaha is one of the sad stories of our state. At one time it was a fantastic fishery...and it may still be today. However, the area has shrunk by a large amount over the past 20 years. Several of the better pits have either been reclaimed by the coal companies or the land has actually been sold off. I'm not sure who is to blame for this, the DNR or the coal companies? I used to think our DNR was to blame by not trying to re-negotiate their lease with this property but anymore I think it is greed coming from the coal companies. I would like to learn more about why Minnehaha is slowly diminishing into nothing but a memory I'd be curious as well. Also, I will never understand why the 14 inch limit is implemented on the local waters of GSF. I never have a problem catching bass, but keeper bass on the other hand is a whole other story! I expressed my concerns to the local biologist and suggested to him as a angler that has fished the waters for nearly 30 years that I think they should revamp the rules. I would be in favor of the slot limit of 6 bass per day under 12 inches and over 14 inches. I just think this would be a step in the right direction when considering other lakes in Indiana that seem to benefit from this rule.

Island is the lake by the Minnehaha office on the north side of highway 54 a couple miles east of Sullivan. Turning north on County Road 300E would take you to another spot that could be fished from the bank for Island but it's closed off as well. Pretty sure Teal Lake is closed off too but it was nothing special to begin with anyway. Wonder what is up with all of that BS? I will never understand the state/coal companies and their ways to be honest.
