Im always looking for ways to make a buck.. and i was thinking about picking up black walnuts this fall to make a little cash. IDK much about where to sell them etc. but i have seen people that pick them up and sell them. I think the price is around $12 or $13 per hundred pounds (with the husks off i think). It would be alot of work but it is just free money other than the work and time it takes to pick them up. To husk them all you gotta do is put them in the driveway and drive over them with your truck a bunch and then pull the husks off while wearing gloves..probly wont get rich from em tho
I was also thinkin about huntin some ginseng.. if its not all dried up. I have found it before but didnt dig up the roots from them. Ginseng is $500 /lb (not sure what it is this year) sometimes as high as $900/lb. If i can find a pound or two ill be rollin in dough!

Yeah i think $200 is overpriced,, but what isnt these days?? ANd i am a pretty hardcore hunter. I usually sit for atleast 6 hours and sometimes all day during the rut and late bow season.. so i do want something comfortable. And i like a large platform to stand on

[quote author=jsanders But don't forget your hunting deer, not trees. The perfect tree may put you out of range of where the deer move through.[/quote] Exactly why i am getting a hang on and using screw in steps.. you can get into almost any tree, ANd the climbing sticks might be safer but more expensive and alot heavier too. I am only going to use tree steps because they are cheaper/lighter and becasue i have a HSS vest AND a rope that you attach to the tree above your stand and as you climb you are always connected. If you fall you will not go far. I wouldnt want to fall and hit treesteps all the way down SAfety is the first priority.

What kind of hang on stands do you guys use ? ANd what kind of steps/sticks? Looking at buying my first hang on stand soon. Frustrated with being limited to trees i can climb with my climber, and my ladder stands just arent high enough to make me feel like i can make any movement whatsoever..
I was gonna get a cheapo comfort zone stand for $40, but now i have done a complete 180 and i am looking at expensive ones.. I have my eye on the Muddy outdoors Hunter. its $200 platform is 24x34" and its 14 lbs..most of the stand is aluminum. THe other one was the Lone Wolf Assault II $240- 26x19.5" platform and weighs 11 lbs (smaller platform than the Muddy) ANd i was going to get some really good steps, called EZ steps. $5 a piece I figure i'll need about 12 or 13 for 20 feet. I was going to lack my stand to the tree and when i leave i was going to take out the first 3 or 4 treesteps at the bottom of the tree ..it could still get stolen but not as easy.. I figure i might as well get a nice one instead of replacing a cheap one after i decide its too heavy and not very comfortable. What works for you guys??

I got 4 today with the 22. Missed a few... shot right over a squirrel at 10 feet and he acted like nothing happened, then i missed again, lol Shot them on hickory mostly and white oak. Thes evening i went across the road huntin and i saw 3 big buckswith about 10 does.. I sat on the hillside and watched the, for about 2 hours. two eight points and a 10 point. THe 10 point would have made P&Y i bet.Im probly gonna hunt in my climber where i saw them come out the woods..atleast for a few days., if i get one of them it will be a long drag. The big buck already had velvet coming off the tips of his tines.

Man, i had a close one. I was squirrel huntin on some public land maybe only 1/4 mile back and hunted a little and started to head back and i got a little bit turned around.. At first i was thinking no big deal i could hear the road and i think i know where im goin.. then the wind picked up and it got dark in the woods and i still wasnt that worried.. Than it was blowing about 40 mph maybe more and it started to POUR down rain. And i kept walking toward where i thought the road was and i just kept walking for about an hour..the brush was really thick and i was soaked. Once i came to the top of the ridge where i thought the road was and saw more woods was when i got a little scared, there was lightning all over the place too.. THen i looked at my phone and it was dying! I really was scared even though i was pretty sure i could wait the storm out if i had to. Finally i found the powerlines and followed it until i found the road. That was a good feeling. Things i should have done that i didnt. -Check the weather -take a compass - been better prepared..I had a headlamp a pocket knife, 22 and 50 rounds. And i should have followed a landmark like a ridge or a creek into the woods since i didnt know the area well. Didnt think id ever get lost in there.Wow. I am still shaking and it was 2 hours ago.Be careful guys

THe best part was i didnt half to burn up a whole tank of gas to get there... It was only a 5 minute drive. And my kayak doesnt need gas either. But it would be nice to mount a little trolling motor on it.HAHA
