I look forward to helping you add to your list this year. I know you need to add Island, Bass, Box of Chocolates and Front Lake (Hillenbrand) to the list. Only about a hundred and fifteen to go. I wish I would've started this challenge several years ago. I've probably got at least 25 under my belt

I always heard that 'Bama was the place to go for big stripers and crappie. I guess this proves it! An Alabama resident has reeled in a 70-pound striped bass that shattered a 34-year-old state record and could land the angler in the book of world records for the heaviest striper ever caught in a landlocked fishery. James R. Bramlett, 65, reeled in the behemoth on the Black Warrior River on Feb. 28. Bramlett told Joe Songer of AL.com that he credits his wife, Janice, for urging him to go fishing. She was scheduled to undergo a hospital procedure in a few days and would need him to be around and take care of her. The catch, weighed on a certified scale, exceeds the previous record, set in 1959, by 15 pounds. "It's definitely uncommon," Heath Haley, a biologist for Alabama Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division, told Field & Stream. "This fish certainly, in my opinion, was an anomaly. It's a very fat, chunky fish. "The previous record being 55 pounds, the fact that it hasn't been broken since the 1950s, it's just incredible that not only he broke it, but he shattered it. You just don't see them that big that often." The striper measured 45.5 inches long and boasted a girth of 37.75. According to Songer, the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources has already approved the catch as a state record. If approved by the International Game Fish Association it'll become a new world record (this process can take weeks or months). The current IGFA record for landlocked stripers is a 67-pound, 8-ounce specimen landed in 1992 in Los Banos, California. [Related: The biggest fish ever caught from a kayak.] Bramlett said he saw the huge fish roll on the surface, so he tossed a bait and soon hooked up. The battle lasted 20 minutes and as soon as Bramlett could secure the catch, he telephoned his wife to share the news about the memorable catch--and, presumably, to thank her for persuading him to spend the day fishing

I feel a different system needs to be put in place that would allow people to make "the book" and allow the fish to live to see another day. I have sour feelings for the record book.

I would recommend buying a PH tester. I was going to put a bunch of fertilizer on my plot last year but opted to buy a tester instead just so that I knew the PH of the soil I was working with. The PH ended up being perfect and it didn't need any fertilizer. Saved me quite a bit of money.

I don't miss a new episode and it is one of the few shows that I can watch the reruns over and over. Ditto

I've always said that "our noses have the best memory". There are so many smells that I can remember from my childhood and every now and then I will get a similar smell from something and it will take right back to a specific place from my childhood. Good stuff!

A 14" shad isn't that uncommon. I've caught some 18" ers in my home lake. I can't see your pics but i would bet it is a shad.

What did they do to fix it? Good to hear they got this opened up, I kind of thought it would take a lot longer than it did based on the news report.

Troy - that is actually one of the better DNR maps I've seen yet! I wish they would do more of these! Like Sam said, most of their maps are completely outdated and worthless, but not near as worthless as a DNR fishing report
