A 14" shad isn't that uncommon. I've caught some 18" ers in my home lake. I can't see your pics but i would bet it is a shad.

Shad kills are common this time of year. Just do a google image search for "shad kill" and you'll probably see some pics of the same thing you witnessed.

You're right it is a shad kill. I just was uncertain because I have never seen shad in that lake before then... Sorry the pictures didn't work. It won't give me an option for an attachment though

DNR put musky in Eagle Creek for the past two years to help control the shad. Look out shad!

Looks like a gizzard shad to me. Here's a pic that shows 3 of the more common bait fish...
