The springs are actually frozen, and believe it or not, they actually freeze thicker than you would think. Its fresh clear water so you can see right through them, thats why they look so thin. BUT, like I said, I just dont think its safe enough to be back out on yet. will post again when i know more.

Here's a quick video of my pond, I just took it. All the tracks you see on the pond are from our dog, and alot are deer tracks. I have'nt been "ON IT' other that a few feet out, since last ice. I think i will give it the rest of the week then go drill a hole and see.

yea IDK WHAT they were thinking. I striped mine and put new line on it. I used...hang on, ... sorry had to get the spool. Shakespeare OMNIFLEX MONO. It is 8 lb test, but it is only .008 diameter. also it is a sky blue colour and seems to dissapear very quickly. I got it in a 700 yd roll, but heck I dont know if they even make this style anymore. I guess eventually I am gonna have to break down and try some of the new stuff...

We use my Dad's old Mossberg .243 with Weaver scope. I've got a Mossberg 800 thats allmost IDENTICLE to that. It's hard to beat a good 243.

Just read this report on iceshanty.com about Shakamak; Still pretty iffy. Lot's of bad spots, and we were not able to fish where I was wanting too, but we were able to get out on kickapoo by spudding our way out and had as little as 2.5"s and as much as 4.5"s. 6"s of snow and slush on top of solid, clear ice. We caught nothing!!!!!! If you are coming down from up north,,,,give it another 3 to 4 days.WOW! On those bigger water bodies, I would'nt have even risked checking it. for around here, Ill stick with the smaller farm ponds!
