Stop the spread. Asian carp and Monroe reservoir. (Web link news) www.therepublic.com/view/story/5c8551834a824ba4b631eda1cf151233/IN--Exchange-Invasive-Species"]http://www.therepublic.com/view/story/5c8551834a824ba4b631eda1cf151233/IN--Exchange-Invasive-Species]http://www.therepublic.com/view/story/5c8551834a824ba4b631eda1cf151233/IN--Exchange-Invasive-Species My thoughts about this. Well I think it's only a matter of time before the Asian carp start getting into our reservoirs. Nobody wants that to happen, but I don't think they can be stopped ! It just makes you wonder what fishing will be like for our son's and daughters in the years to come long after I'll be gone. I was surprised to hear that these carp have made it into some of the Greene-Sullivan lakes. Do you know which ones Greenedog ? These carp have already made it to Martinsville, and I suspect even further up-stream in the White river. We've got to find a way to stop them, and if we don't the future of fishing will hang in the balance. Desperate measure need to be taken before it's to late !

Lake Michigan
**** Anglers and biologists report a fresh run of STT moved into Trail creek with fish jumping at the barrier and DNR passing 71 fish upriver on Trail Creek. Fresh fish were noted in the E and W branches of the Little Cal also. Spawn bags drifted just off the bottom through the deeper runs & pools followed by shrimp are the top producers. Orange, brass & silver spinners also caught aggressive fish in the same areas. Lots of activity over the weekend and a very strong run continues with fish found throughout the major watersheds.
St. Joseph River
Fresh Steelhead have begun the trek into the st. joe. water temperature was 70 and fish were observed in the South bend and Mishawaka ladders. Thourgh July 25th 224 steelhead have passed up river which began on July 3rd. This week we will update the numbers after reviewing the images from the South Bend ladder. A strong run is happerning on the lower st. joe so we expect to see good numbers in the Indiana portions of the river.

This was posted on my site, and I don't have any idea of what, or where to tell this guy to look, so I'm posting it here in hopes some of you might be able to help him.
I'm an avid vintage beer can collector (pre-1960) and would be interested in any insight into old deer camp, fishing camp, farm or cabin dumps that could contain a pile of old beer cans. I'd be willing to dig some if needed to get to any older cans. You would just have to point me in the general area (or a big pile of rust) and I'd enjoy a chance to go through the pile. I would love for a chance to collect up some of the old cans that litter the forests in your area if you or any of your fellow fishers can point me towards some old dumps that you might have seen. I'd also be willing to look under old buildings, in attics and in barns for old cans. I will be sure to respect any property and ensure that it is made safe for hunters to continue to enjoy. I'd be willing to make a valued donation to your fishing camp for any leads that pan out. We will have a limited amount of time but will be in the Gosport, Bloomington and Brown County area. We are looking for old properties or cabins where people might have disposed of their beer cans during the times when trash was never picked up. I'd retired Army living in Florida but would be willing to travel anywhere with a confirmed lead on a location. Plans are to be in Indiana the end of August. You can contact me (Keith) 813 679-2690 keithker@hotmail.com or teamtropical@hotmail.com.

Myself and a fishing buddy named "Ron" decided to head out. It was about 6:00 am before we got to the boat ramp. Nobody else was in sight ! It as still dark.
We started out on a cold brisk November day. A small later of skim ice had formed on the lake edges overnight, and in some places it was over 1/2 inch thick. There was no problem launching our bass boat, and we headed out for open water.
We decided to try some bass fishing, so I tied on a plastic worm, and Ron tried a small jig with crawdad like trailer on it. We had fished for around 45 minutes when we came up on a likely looking cove. Only problem was it was at least an inch thick ice. Didn't look to good for this spot !
As Ron turned on the trolling motor I thought I'd cast up onto the ice, and let it fall as it came across the ice shelf. That's when it happened !! As soon as my plastic worm hit the ice, a very big fish broke up through the ice and inhaled my bait !
Wow, I knew instantly that this was a big fish ! My drag started screaming' as the fish made his initial run, and the drag was smoking as I set the hook ! That fish must of felt it, and it took off like a rocket ship on wheels.
That fish was pulling us all around the lake ! After about three hours of this I decided to set the hook again, and dig then barbs in a little deeper. OUCH ! I know the fish felt that ! The fish took off so fast that it set the bottom of the boat on fire. Here we are out in the middle of the lake and the boats burning !
It was just lucky for us that the fish jumped over that sandbar because it drug us across it, and put the fire out !
I couldn't pull this fish up, and as it pulled us around in circles for another hour myself and Ron were getting tired.
I gave my fishing rod to Ron, my arms were shaky and tired. We still hadn't seen the fish and Ron had made only made a dozen or so cast before we hooked it.
He thought he was going to muscle the fish up and set the hook again !
That must of really made the fish mad ! Again the fish took off like a rocket !
We both sat there in the boat, our mouths just dropped open in amazement at the power of this fish !!
Then it happened, the fish pulled us around so fast that we were passing jet skiers, and so fast it set the boat back on fire !! It's a really bad feeling knowing your in a wooden boat, and your on fire !
Then it got even worse, at first we thought it was the US Navy firing a torpedo at us. The fishing line went slack and all we could see was this fish attacking us. Was like a torpedo aimed right for our boat, only it was the fish ramming our boat head on !
CRACK, I could feel and hear it. Then a little bit of water started coming into the boat. I'm looking at Ron, and he's looking at me like "what the heck".
The fish circled the boat two or three times and then lined up for another attack. We watched as the torpedo was coming in to ram us again and them "BOOM" as the fish hit the boat another time. Water started gushing in so I grabbed an old coffee can we had in the boat and started bailing it out !
About that time the fish started jumping up out of the water like it was laughing at us. For the first time we got a good look at the fish. Holy Cow, it was the biggest darn carp I've ever seen ! Must of gone over 200 pounds and big around as a 55 gallon barrel !
Then the fish took off again and Ron's holding onto the rod for dear life ! I plugged up some of the cracks in the boat that the fish had done, and then the carp just pulled us around the lake for a few more hours.
I told Ron to just cut the line, but he was thinking about a new state record carp.
As we got towards the north end of the lake the carp started speeding up, and then it happened ! That fish took us half way up the waterfall and :SNAP". The sound of the line snapping still rings in my ears ! Darn, I should of been using Stren !

Invasion of the Cicadas (Locust)
Do you remember a few years back when they said the locust, or Cicadas would be coming out in record numbers ? Well everyone, prepare yourselfs ! They say it's going to happen again this year, and that there will be more than ever before ! Kind of sounds like 64 degrees ground temperature is the majic number. You fly guys might want to tie a few flies that resemble these bugs. Other anglers just might want to get a couple crankbaits that look like these bugs. Last time this happened just about all fish in the lakes gorged themselfs out on these bugs and got really fat ! It's suppose to happen again this year ! More info is at the link posted below.
