This was video'd back in the September youth season. After several attempts, it seems to be loaded right on youtube.
The video is being reviewed

Great to take kids out and all, wears the hunter orange required by law??? Good catch Mullis, he wasn't wearing his vest when he went to recover the deer - he had it in the blind during the hunt. I pulled the video until I have time to go back through the raw footage.

What about on the way out? What about when he shoot the deer? What about when he was holding gun by blind? What about when he recovered deer next day? What about when he was at truck that night? Was there an orange vest?

Was there an orange vest? He wore all his stuff on the way out. He did not wear it the next day as he was not hunting nor caring a weapon of any kind. Everybody was soaked by the time we got back to the truck and most of us were stripped down including him.

What about in the blind when he shot the deer? Where was it when he was holding his gun while your setting up blind?
Not busting your balls but it isn't right or LEGAL!

Your just pointing out what you see, no problem here.
I will personally talk with him so this honest mistake is not made again. He is not intentionally breaking any laws and will most definately learn from this. Nobody is perfect and we all make mistakes but whats important is that we learn from our mistakes.

Wish I could've seen it. We'll probably see some rule changes soon when it comes to ground blinds, like hunter orange displayed on the OUTSIDE of the blind. The first time I thought of this was a few years ago when I took Chase to some public land for the youth hunt. We were in a ground blind and when the shooting started, I realized we were hidden in the blind, so I took my orange hat and tossed it on top of the blind. I still felt like it was too dangerous, so we hightailed it out of there!

Troy we usually put our hats or vest on the outside of the blind as well. The law does state that it must be worn, but we figure if a CO walked up to the blind he/she would understand our reasoning. I wouldn't mind seeing some makers make a velcro patch for the tops that you can attach an orange sheet, but be removable for turkey season. Although I have had plenty of turkeys come within reaching distance of me while I was wearing an orange hat. That doesn't mean they will come to an orange call though.

Ameristep makes hunter orange "caps" for different style ground blinds and I see that some states are already implementing hunter orange requirements for ground blinds.

its not a bad idea to make people put orange on their blinds when they're hunting out of them.
