Chase just had a half day of school today, so we were able to hit the woods early. We were in the ground blind by 2:05 and at 2:20 had a little doe walk in. This deer walked straight in to us and Chase laid the smack down on her at 5 yards! :oThe shot knocked the deer down, but the shot was a little high(I don't think he had ever practiced a 5 yd shot! 
) She got up and just went about 40 yds and laid back down. We were in no hurry because our plan was to try for a "poultry/venison" double. We sat for two more hours and at 4:30 we decided to go do the recovery while there was still good light and so we could get her checked in. Chase does a little on camera interview saying something like "Well, we were hoping to have a tom walk by, but it don't look like it's going to happen, let's go have a look at my deer, it's laying right over there." As soon as he say's this, he turns his head to the right and whispers; "Turkey!" Three big toms are coming out of the stripper hills into our woods. Everything happened so fast, I didn't get very good footage, but Chase missed a big ol' tom at 25 yds. He shot at the third bird and let fly before I panned over to it. He said it looked like he barely shot over the bird. It looked like he might get another shot because the birds didn't run off, but they just walked out of range. We will back out there tomorrow evening trying for another shot at those birds!
