Chase just had a half day of school today, so we were able to hit the woods early. We were in the ground blind by 2:05 and at 2:20 had a little doe walk in. This deer walked straight in to us and Chase laid the smack down on her at 5 yards! :oThe shot knocked the deer down, but the shot was a little high(I don't think he had ever practiced a 5 yd shot! ) She got up and just went about 40 yds and laid back down. We were in no hurry because our plan was to try for a "poultry/venison" double. We sat for two more hours and at 4:30 we decided to go do the recovery while there was still good light and so we could get her checked in. Chase does a little on camera interview saying something like "Well, we were hoping to have a tom walk by, but it don't look like it's going to happen, let's go have a look at my deer, it's laying right over there." As soon as he say's this, he turns his head to the right and whispers; "Turkey!" Three big toms are coming out of the stripper hills into our woods. Everything happened so fast, I didn't get very good footage, but Chase missed a big ol' tom at 25 yds. He shot at the third bird and let fly before I panned over to it. He said it looked like he barely shot over the bird. It looked like he might get another shot because the birds didn't run off, but they just walked out of range. We will back out there tomorrow evening trying for another shot at those birds!

Chase and I were back in the ground blind yesterday evening where he shot his doe Thursday. Right on schedule at 4:30, the 3 toms we had seen before came by, this time out of range. We've nicknamed these birds the "3 Stooges". We watched them for a longtime, they were working along our hayfield and eventually into the food plot. An hour or so after they were gone a group of about 10 hens came running into the woods and past us at 40 yds. Not sure what had them spooked. About 7:00, Chase says deer! We watch as two does and three fawns come in. They ended up coming right out in front of us and then started coming up the trail to our blind. One of the does turned off the trail before she got to us, but one of the young deer kept coming and I swear I thought she was going to walk right up and peek in the blind! This deer was even closer than the one Chase shot at 5 yds. After about 15 minutes they decided there was something they didn't like and trotted off. Got some cool "upclose" footage.
Here's the footage:

[glow=red,2,300]I hope we keep seeing deer. No bucks yet but the does are there so the bucks will come sooner or later . I can't wait to get another crack at the 3 stooges. [/glow]
