Willy is my 4 year old son. This year my wife bought us a buddy stand. We put it up in our woods behind the house a couple of weeks ago and Willy and I have sat in it once. That night we saw 6 does. One of them offered me a 20yd broadside. I usually shoot a doe or two but am selective with my timing. (Had to work the next day so didn't want to mess with it). Well since then, despite his begging, I haven't taken Willy with me because it has been a little cold and I wanted to do some "serious" hunting. Well I have seen a few does and one small buck but have had nothing even close to a shot opportunity. Well tonight he talked me into going. Clear skies and windy I didn't have to much hope. We didn't set in the "Best buddy" stand as Willy calls it instead we took the pop-up blind and set on the edge of a cut bean field. About a half hour before dark a smallish 8 pointer came out. Came to within 25 yards and walked broadside. I passed on this one despite the persistant pleading of a four year old to "just shoot it". After that buck left I decided to go ahead and pack up despite about 15 minutes of light left. Just as I got the blind put away a six point came out. This one was bigger than the first and showed a lot of promise for future years but wasn't quite there yet. He did come to about 18 yards broadside. Easy pickens if I wasn't so picky. So anyway if there is anyone out there who hasn't had much luck I have a four year old who seems to be a deer magnet. He is available for rent. We will even throw in a 6 month old named Leo who almost sleeps all night. Ha! Ha! Happy Hunting!
