This weekend is our annual deer camp when Monty and Catfishsam come down to do some hunting. Monty and Sam weren't going to get down here early enough to for an evening hunt, so me and Dad headed out. He had just set up a couple of hang ons where we had been seeing a lot of deer. We were there for about 15 minutes and some turkeys came into the woods. They stayed out of range and got scared off by a car driving by. Around 6:30, we hear a deer snorting behind us. But it wasn't snorting us. Three does came in and went to the edge of the woods. We see one take off and figure the others took off too. We wait a while and I see one headed right for us. Of course it's the smallest one. But this is brown and down deer camp. So I couldn't pass it up at 5 yds from our tree. It was so close we couldn't tell where I hit it. It was almost 7 o'clock. We headed back to eat, review the footage, and get the crew. We still couldn't tell where I hit it reviewing the footage. So after a couple of hours me, Dad, Booey, Monty, and Catfishsam headed out with the golf cart and four wheeler. After only 20 mins. or so we saw a white belly. It only went around 60 yds. I made a perfect shot right through the lungs. Dad volunteered to film a youth duck hunt at goose pond in the morning. Monty and Sam will be in the buddy stand and I'll be in another woods. They are staying til Sunday. This is hopefully the start of a great weekend for the BBB crew.

Saturday morning Sam and Monty were in the buddy stand and I was in the ground blind at our food plot. Neither of us saw anything but I saw a coyote before shooting time. That evening Monty and Sam were in the buddy stand again, Dad and Booey were in the hang ons that I shot my doe out of. I was across the road near a bean field. I didn't see anything. Monty and Sam spotted a small fork horn and it came within 15 yds of their stand and then....... sam passes it up!!

So much for the name Camp Brown and Down. Then the deer heads toward Dad and Booey. Booey isn't passing anything up. It comes within 20 yds of them but doesn't offer a shot. That night we cut some meat off my doe and fired up the grill. Put it in BBQ sauce and mmm... This morning, (Sunday) I was in the ground blind, Monty and Sam were in the buddy stand, and Dad and Booey were in the hang ons again. Dad and Booey saw 4 does and a spike out of range. Monty and Sam also saw around 5 deer. They all stayed out of range. Monty and Sam had to go home after the morning hunt. It was a fun weekend. Only one deer went down but it would've been two if Sam wasn't a trophy hunter.

We think we will be able to have another deer camp during the rut.
