What do you think is the best bait to use on big lakes for bass. I've never caught a fish in a lake before, but I catch a ton of Bass and sunnies in any pond, creek, or small river. I try a lot of different baits but never catch anything. What do you think is the best bait to use and where?

I really don't think there is just one good bait to use, depends on several factors such as water temp, clarity, time of day etc...If I had to pick just a couple baits to use they would be some trick works and chatter baits...If there is some good top water vegitation I'll also use some top water lures,Ribbets are my favorite...I compare it to like deer hunting for bass...Get a good map of the lake that shows all of the structure like old road beds, points, creek channels, stump beds,etc...It took me several years and talking to a lot of guys in bass clubs to figure things out.Good luck

If your fishing in a big lake off a dock, you should try using live bait, like bluegill or shiners. But if you going off on the boat, try to find trenches or deep parts in the lake and throw some plastic worms with a bullet weight. I would also try chatter baits and some spinner baits. If there are lily pads in the lake use topwater frogs like horny toads or ribbets. Keep us posted with the results!

I know the feeling. me and big lakes dont get along either, but give me a farm pond and I will kill bass all day. There are a lot of good tips already given so I would try those. also try some deep diving crankbaits during the warmer hours of the day in deep water. try shad colors on the crankbaits.
