I had never heard of brush hogs until joining this site and decided to check them out. Swung into Gander today and picked up a pack of baby green pumpkin. From what I had read the baby tends to get better results. So the first question is do you guys prefer the baby or the big ones? Second, how do you set them up? Are you just throwing a hook in and going staying up top or do you use some weight to get them to the bottom? I suppose you could just very well use either method; just which ever works at that time. Have you tried a weedless hook as well? I should have asked these questions before hand as I'll probably have to go get more stuff to get these to work right. Thanks for any tips or info offered. Looking forward to trying them out. Also picked up a nice new St. Croix today.

I've caught more bass on the tiny Brush Hogs. But I can't find them anywhere. I haven't used the big ones yet. The Baby Brush Hogs were great too. I use a simple texas rig. My favorite hook to use with them are the offset Gamakatsu with a bullet sinker. This is the only way I've tried them, not sure if other ways work better. I use them just like I would use a worm. Let it hit the bottom, twitch, sink, twitch, when your line starts swimming set the hook!! Good luck!

OK, tried the hogs out. Started out using spinners, cranks, rapalas, nothing was biting. I set up a hog on a texas rig the best I could (didn't have the right sinkers). First cast out and I was getting bites. On about the 3rd cast I landed one (first pic). A few cast later, caught the 2nd one and he was smaller than the first. In all I'm not sure how many total bites I had. I'm going to head out around 7am to see what happens. Hopefully something bigger will take it. I used a weighted hook and set it up as weedless bouncing it off the bottom.

No I haven't. Then again, I didn't see a whole lot of action where I was fishing. I tried Twin Lake, Bass Lake and Sullivan since my last post...nothing. I flat out got skunked at Twin (usually do : , Bass Lake was 3 bluegill and 1 LM on nightcrawlers and this morning was another LM on a crank but he shook himself off at the first jump out of the water , looked, felt like a 1-2 pounder. I lost a hog this morning on snag as well; set it up different when I should've known better considering what I was casting into. Oh well, vacation isn't over yet so I'll keep at it.

OK, has anyone else caught a bluegill with a brush hog? Yesterday during all that rain me and a couple buddies were dove hunting and decided to fish after not seeing any doves for a while. I put a hog on and started casting. I did catch a couple bass (keeper size, no big ones) but what surprised me the most was when I reeled in this blugill. He hit it just right to get himself hooked. That's a nice 'gill! I've caught redear on the tiny brush hogs and I'm pretty sure Chase has caught some bluegill. The other evening we were down at the pond casting tiny torpedos and Chase had a tiny gill hit on topwater! Attachments:

Nice gill!! I still don't get how that gill I caught got hooked. Brush Hog's are like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get!! do u think you could get a video of a bass in the process of it making ur line swimming away and u setting the hook. That would be cool, and it would help me get a better idea of bass fishing.
