Opening day, 2008. Up here in Minnesota, the minimum deer hunting age WAS 12, but starting in 2008 it was 10. I got cheated out of 2 years, but I shouldn't be to grumpy. This buck was shot at 7:03am on opening day, on my grandpa's farm in Bagley, Minnesota. There is quite the story to it also. It was the first time I had held a high powered rifle, when that buck came out. My dad pointed it out to me, 175 yards down the feild. BOOM I took a shot at that trotting deer, only to miss, 10 feet behind its rear. I loaded another shot, on that bolt action .243, only to miss again. But this time the deer was sprinting. Cocked and ready, I looked down the scope, and only to my surprise the deer turned around, heading to where he came, 30 yards away. I shot again, and missed. I thought for sure I had lost him, but to my surprise, he stopped just 2 yards away from the tree line. It was like he tried to taunt me, laugh that I had missed. But to his disbelief, I had one more shot in my clip. I took that shot and down he went. Seconds later my grandpa, sitting in a stand not 150 yards away, radioed in, "Is he dead yet?!?!" All I could yelp out was a big old, "Yep."

I started hunting when I was 7. It took me 3 years to kill one.
