We quietly gained access to another 455 acres recently in Greene County. Have any of you checked it out yet? I am definitely going to soon, even if it's just to scout. I'll most likely bring Daffy though and see if we can't kick up a quail. This property really interests me because it's across the river from one of my all time favorite places on earth; my Grandpa's cabin. If you look to the left of the map you'll see a road that runs east and west and T's at the river. My Grandpa Bell had a cabin to the north of the T and my Mom's brother; Uncle Jack had a cabin to the south of the T. We almost always went up river to fish and I see that the river has now cut through up there leaving an island that is part of the WMA. On the south tip of that island is big sandbar that we spent many a hot afternoon cooling off in the river and sometimes bathing. I'm sure Monty has some distant memories of this.

Earlier this year, the Indiana Department of Transportation transferred a 455-acre property to the Indiana Division of Fish & Wildlife. Restoration work on the property had been completed as part of mitigation for I-69. This new addition to Indiana public lands is known as Morgan Bluff Wildlife Management Area. Located in southwestern Greene County, the unique property borders the West Fork White River with bottomland hardwoods, wooded wetlands, and an oxbow lake. The area is now open for public use; all standard regulations for Fish & Wildlife properties apply: wildlife.IN.gov/10204.htm. Access to the area crosses private land; be sure to only drive on the gravel access lane and park in the designated parking lot.
