The folks have been down south for almost 2 weeks now. From the reports I'm getting it sounds a lot like last year; some slabs from their dock and decent numbers on their morning outings on the river. For those of you new to the Florida crappie thread, my folks have been spending the winters in North central Florida for over 20 years and spend a good part of their time crappie fishing. They usually longline troll on the lakes but the past couple years the crappie have been in the river and they have been drifting with minnows. They stay in a small town called Astor that the St. John's River runs through. Almost 3 years ago I bought a place in Astor across the road from the place my folks lease and we get down there every chance we get. Thank goodness for those cheap Allegiant flights!

Ya baby, it's on now! Nice to see the Florida slabs. Love that plate of oysters, too!

Dad with another dandy from the dock today! It's funny that they hardly ever caught any nice ones off the dock until a few years ago. Quite a few years ago we would catch channel cats and stingrays and then they quit for a while and about all you could catch was bluegill and small crappie. The stingrays have moved back in along with the big crappie. Still hardly ever catch any channel cats.

I guess I should take that back about not catching channel cats anymore; I just looked back through the 2019 thread and dad caught 9 off the dock one day while crappie fishing. Chase and me caught a couple too.

No kayak fishing today. The battery I had just replaced 18 months ago was bad in the explorer. Had to go to Daytona to Sam's to exchange it. Still under warranty so all good there. We then went to a couple different bait shops in search of fiddler crabs with no luck. Both guys said the sheepshead bite is to good right now, can't keep them in stock. Bought some sand fleas and shrimp and went to the Dunlawton bridge pier to fish but got skunked. A lady next to us did catch a nice black drum. We're going going back over there in the morning with the kayaks to fish for anything that will bite.
