So Colt and me were on Lake George down in Florida and we stopped at a sandbar where the Juniper Springs run into the lake to take a dip and cool off. There was 3 boats anchored with 2 or 3 people at the side of each wade fishing. They were throwing what looked like chum out in front of them and casting their bobbers out with what looked like a dough bait and were getting some pretty steady action with some hard fighting fish. I finally realized that they were catching mullet. I didn't even know you could catch them other than with castnets. They all looked to be having a blast! After telling Dad about it he said they were probably throwing hog feed out to bring the mullet in and that you can catch them on anything that looks like the feed...even a small piece of plastic, although it did look like these folks were using some sort of dough bait. They were having so much fun that I am definitely gonna give this a try. I did try casting out some bread balls that I made from the sandwiches we had on the boat but didn't have any luck. I wanted to find a video of this kind of fishing but this was the closest I could find to it...

I wasn't familiar with mullet, so I did a Google search. Needless to say, I am very disappointed that they don't actually have mullets.

Mullet is the go-to bait for big red drums in Louisiana. Surely, people don't eat the mullet. Catching to sell the bait stores or stock up on their own bait supply??

Yeah, mullet is the main food source and bait for gamefish along the coast of Florida too. You see a lot of folks cast netting the finger mullet near boat ramps. But a lot of people eat them in the south too. I've seen roadside stands selling smoked mullet and you can find fried mullet in restaurants down there too. Hell, I've ate Asian carp....mullet ain't nothin!

This guy is catching mullet on bare hooks. Might see if Chase wants to give this a whirl next week.
