Congrats Lee! I haven't seen a buck (in daylight) since firearms season started. It's been a horrible season for me thus far. I'm not even sure if I'm going to hunt anymore until muzzy season starts. I'm burned out!

I may take the smokepole out during the doe only firearm coming up. Got some other things to do and it's tough to get out right now. Maybe tomorrow if I'm lucky. Not holding my breath. It will be hard to take the ML when I can use anything else that's legal in the last week of December for does. Sullivan county did not get the doe only firearm this year but this is the first year in a while that Greene has got it..iirc.

I tagged out tonight on a little buck. I had just posted to instagram saying all I want for christmas is a deer. A few minutes later I hear grunting and a buck was chasing two does. They went by out of range and were leaving when I did my best snort wheeze with my snotty nose. He stopped but didn't seem too interested. They went out of sight and I thought that was it. Well, 10 minutes later the little guy was walking along the edge of the field right to me. He gets to about 10 yards and I try to pull back but he spooks. I snort wheeze a couple times and he actually stopped about 50 yards. He then comes in again to about 10 yards. Curiosity definitely killed this buck. He spooks, runs behind me 25 yards and stops again. I draw put the pin behind the shoulder and squeeze. I made a perfect shot and he goes 50 yards and drops in sight. I was really proud of the shot, he was dead within 30 seconds of the arrow going through him. I actually got him with the same arrow and G5 Montec broad head I killed my turkey with in October.

Nice job Chase! I've conceded that I'm going to eat tag soup this season. Me and my buddy had some "rules" placed on us this year by the landowner that limited our opportunities to fill a tag or two. First rule was that harvesting does was off limits on our properties this season due to "low numbers", although we saw more deer this year as we've season in the past several seasons. Then the other rule was that we were only allowed to harvest bucks with antlers at least out even with their ears. In all honesty the rules don't bother me that much but it does negatively impact your desire to get out and hunt. I like deer meat. My family likes deer meat. I try to shoot either one big buck or 2 does each season to get us through the year. The fact that I was no longer hunting to feed my family negatively impacted my drive to hunt this year - big time! I had dozens of opportunities throughout the season to shoot does and small bucks but only had one encounter with a mature buck and it was a very, very brief encounter. Oh well, we'll see what happens next year. Luckily, one of my deer hunting buddies doesn't eat deer but shot a decent buck midway through firearms season and he gave it to me. So at least I have meat!
