Pretty good start to the season so far! I had a dandy 9 point coming right up the fencerow to me but he was able to hop into the corn before I could get a shot. Then a doe and 2 fawns came out of the corn and stopped right in front of me. I gave her a free pass today. At the same time they were in front of me a small buck cut across the standing bean field in front of me. Then a little later a big doe with triplets showed herself in the same field but didn't come close enough to shoot. Nice, wet start to the season! Mosquitoes have been ferocious this year. I will say I have put the thermacell to the test and it has done wonders. Best invention ever! I honestly didn't need the mosquito net once I fired up the thermacell but I took this photo just for "effect".  My view  |

I will be in the stand soon. I checked on my stand from last year over the weekend and was in it a couple minutes and had two does come out of the standing corn. Hopefully that's sign for a good season! Good luck everyone!!  |

Back at it again. Although it is rather warm I took advantage of the stiff southern breeze we are getting in hopes that it would keep the skeeters away. Still have a few skeeters hanging around but not too bad and the Thermacell works wonders. Sitting in a stand that I have never shot a buck out of but I have taken countless does from here over the years. I'm between a standing bean field and corn field in the middle of the woods. I normally hunt fencerows and field edges but decided do something out of the norm since the farmer was picking beans in front of the stand I wanted to hunt. Not expecting much but still just love being out here.

Haven't been in a stand yet, but the skeeters ran me out of the garage when I was doing some cleaning earlier. Decided to finally invest in a Thermacell. Went to Wal-Mart and they only had one left. I scooped it up and headed back home. That thing works like a champ. I should have bought one years ago.

I scooped it up and headed back home. That thing works like a champ. I should have bought one years ago. People don't buy them because they think it's a gimmick or "it's too good to be true". I'm here to tell you that those things work amazingly well. They aren't a gimmick. On opening morning, my and my hunting buddy hit the woods and he was back in the truck within a half hour because the skeeters ran him out. I was able to sit for a couple of hours and the skeeters never did bother me once the Thermacell kicked in. He now owns one  |

I used the new "rifle rule" as an excuse to buy a new gun yesterday.  Bought a scoped Remington 783 .308 at Gander Mtn on sale for $299. Now I just need to find some time to get in a tree over the next couple weeks.   |

Opening day of gun was the slowest I have ever seen . Our group saw 5 doe & a 4pt . I have not seen any chasing & I only found 1 rub & 2 scrapes . I am hoping this weather changes and gets them going , as my turnips are waiting for them .
