Is everybody ready to hit it? Season kicks off tomorrow. Crops are falling fast around my hunting ground. As a matter of fact, I had a decent buck patterned until they picked the corn and beans around my spot over the weekend. I haven't seen him since. I gotta admit I'm not really ready at all. I haven't shot the new crossbow much, yet, because I haven't had time and when I have had time it has been so windy that I haven't wanted to do it. Looking forward to hearing about your guys' good (and bad) experiences this fall. Good luck to y'all!

Could not be less ready. Looks like it should be a good fall to because the crops are disappearing fast around here also. We pulled all the stands this spring to fix them up with new straps, but haven't touched them since. Haven't shot the crossbow, didn't get a new bow. There's just to much "real life" happening right now!! Need to get things settled down again, until then I don't see myself hunting.

I mean, I know you have a lot of new good things happening in your life right now but at the same time "real life" can be the hardest part about life. Hopefully you get to spend some time in a tree, but if not, I hope you make up for it with time spent on the water! I was hoping we could get together before the weather turns frigid and pound some beers and gills. Also, I gotta admit that I'm looking forward to meeting Gail.

Life is good and all thumbs up right now, Matt!! I probably shouldn't have worded it like I did. Just a lot of new and exciting stuff going on right now for my boys and me! Gail is wanting to kill her first deer this year so I really need to get her shooting either the crossbow or we may have to wait until gun season. We just have so much going on every week that it's hard to set priorities sometimes. You're welcome down here anytime Matt, and I've already warned her about my buddy from up north!

I felt the same about being ready, not very. I didn't get a stand put up this year or really even any scouting. All of my previous hunting spots were best for a south wind. Well I took the day off from work so I am going. I decided to go to a spot I've noticed alot of sign but never hunted. Jumped up a couple deer on the way out. 9am I had a doe walk up the trail I used to walk to the stand. She even had the wind in her favor and didn't notice. Quartering to me, not the best shot to take but I did. She ran 30-35 yards and dropped like a sack of potatoes.

Nice job Justin! She'll taste good! This is the first kill of the 2015 season that I've heard of so far.

I was able to crawl up in a stand yesterday evening. Me and my hunting buddy had just moved the stand on Friday afternoon so I was anxious to give it a try. Just before I entered the woods I jumped a doe with 2 fawns. Of course, that's always discouraging knowing you are running deer out of your area as you are walking to your stand. However, I persisted and man was it worth it! Although I didn't shoot anything I had plenty of action throughout the evening. The first action I had was about an hour into my sit I heard some crashing behind me and two fawns came flying past me followed by their mom...I'm assuming these were the same three that I jumped on the way in. The best part was they brought another doe and fawn with them as they came through. I could've taken that doe as she stopped right in front of me at 20 yards but I decided to wait on a doe that was a little bigger. Throughout the evening I had deer about every 5 to 10 minutes going from the back of the woods to the front all on the same trail. I wasn't counting but I would say nearly 20 deer passed through there over the course of the evening. Nothing with horns though. On my way back to my truck I got to the edge of the woods and I was waiting for the farmer who was plowing the field to go by me. As I was standing there I decided to decock my crossbow. So I took my cocking rope out and quietly decocked my bow. (It's really nice to be able to decock this thing without having to shoot it..I love it!) I waited another minute or two and once the farmer was past me I proceeded out into the field only to discover there was a very large doe and fawn that had just made their way out into the field. I backed up to the edge of the woods but they had already seen me. However, the curiousity was killing them and they came over to check me out They stopped at about 30 yards and gave me what would've been a perfect broadside shot had my bow been loaded I guess I need to wait until I get to my truck before I "unload" from now on. I just never thought they would come marching into that field with the farming plowing it.

Good to see you guys have been getting out. I should be in a tree this weekend. I've been busy because I just got hired at Berry Plastics in Odon. Also, one of the "real-life" things Dad is referring to is I'm getting married the 24th.
