It's been awhile since I've done any serious pan fishing so I headed out after work last night to one of my holes in the national forest. It took over an hour to figure out where the fish were at and what they wanted to eat. Very tough bite, but I did manage to take a few home. Bugs were terrible!!

I've heard from others that the bugs have become really bad. Good to see you were able to find a few fish after figuring out the pattern.

way to stick with it and find em man. what depth and bait? the bugs here are absolutely overwhelming. The gnats are still around (though not quite as bad) but the skeeters are ridiculous and now we're having issues with bees and especially horse flies. I really hate winter but... dare I say it... these bugs really make me look forward to drilling some holes this winter...

I had to cast out as far as I could in the middle. It was probably about 8 foot there, which isn't the deepest part of the pond, where I normally can bag a few. I tied the smallest red ratso I had(I think 1/50oz) and tipped it with a bee moth. fished it about a foot off the bottom.
I bet 3-4 gnats got in my damn eyes. Bring on the ice!!

I hope we get an early hard frost this year to get rid of these bugs. If not, early archery season will be unbearable.
