I haven't really been seeing much in terms of trout yet and I've also heard a couple different things about lake stockings. Midland, Airline and even 29. What have you heard?

I saw on the DNR's site they dumped 1,000 at Midland and a 1,000 at Airline. I didn't see 29 mentioned.

Alright. I thought that was odd when I heard that 29 got them.

I hadn't seen the 2015 places and numbers yet, but I did spend some time looking over the 2014 stocking numbers yesterday and found out some things I didn't know. They're still stocking over a million walleye fry in Patoka and they've also switched from stocking stripers to wipers. They put 130,000 largemouth in Turtle Creek(Merom.) If you're wanting a mess of catfish there's some local waters you might not think of as cat waters; Worm Pit in Clay County got around a 1,000 and in Terre Haute Dobb's Park got around 800 and Maple Ave Lake got 1100 in addition to the same amount of rainbow trout. They made the search system pretty nice as you can choose water body, county, or species... DNR Fish Stocking

It is hard to believe how many fish get stocked in our lakes and rivers each year. Does anyone know if the DNR has ever tried to stock walleye in any of the GSSF pits? I'm pretty sure it hasn't been done but I've always felt that it would be nice to see this get done. It seems like many of the pits could sustain a walleye population with the amount of deep water they have This is something I would really like to see the state experiment with. When they first stocked bass lake with musky it was kind of "let's see how this works" kind of thing. Look at the success of that so far

I've a had a few different people tell me that the mine was stocking Bass Lake with walleye before the state took it over. It's nice having the muskie and trout stocked around here, but I'd sure like to see something a little better tasting stocked! It also ticks me off that Sullivan Lake gets all those saugeye and then the county wants an arm and a leg to fish there.

Years ago they had stocked Walleye in Twin pit in the forest , but never caught one before they reclaimed it . Andis pit used to be one of my favorites and is totally gone now.

Twin? Are you referring to the lake over by the shooting range or is there one in GSSF with that name? The lake on the south side of the road going to the shooting range was named Twin. It's tough to keep track of all the lakes over there.

On another note me and my cousin fished Midland Sunday. He caught 1 trout and that was it for the day for either of us. When I got there a couple had 3 on the stringer but we just couldn't get on them.

I found Midland harder to fish than the year prior fishing Island...at least from the bank.

Next time I catch some of them I'm just going to smoke them. You would think with the amount of walleye that the state stocks in various lakes throughout the state that they would put some into a pit or two in the forest. I think we should contact the local DNR and let them know how we feel about it and see what their response is. On another note...when I first replied to this thread with my question about whether or not any walleye had been stocked in GSSF it got me thinking about something that I remembered reading somewhere...that Trout lake in the forest has Lake Trout in it. After doing some digging around I found where I had once read it. It was in one of those lake map books that you can buy at Wal-mart. Here is what I found... I thought that was kind of interesting. I've never fished that pit but I know people who have and I've never heard of a lake trout being caught out of there Not sure what to make of that?

Troy - do you have any info regarding the picture I posted above? Do you know if trout lake really does have lake trout in it?

No, I have that same map book and that's the only reference I've ever seen to "lake trout" stocking there. I always figured it was just a typo or just wrong. I do know that Airline was once stocked with both browns and rainbows.

My dad said he was always was told by someone that they put Walleye in at Graveyard a long time ago. I also heard that they tried them at Wampler at one time. As far as Airline, they use to put German Browns in there many years ago along with the Rainbow Trout. About 20 years ago when I was fishing at Graveyard with my dad when I was much younger, we both saw a few fish we couldn't make out. Not saying it was Walleye, but you never know.
