Fished a new spot in Terre Haute after work last night....Maple Lake on the northside. It's a fairly new city park and I was impressed with the work they've put into it; paved boat ramp, shelter house, paved trail all around the 11 acre lake, and they are still in the process of building a playground and restrooms. It's been stocked with rainbows the past 2 springs and that's what my buddy, "Kipper Jim", and me were after. I ended up going 5/7 with all the catches coming on trout powerbait. My buddy went 0/1 on a rooster tail. There was a couple other guys there and it looked like they both had limits. I fished Midland Lake this afternoon between the rains and finally got off the schnied there....went 1/1 on a worm under a float. That was my 3rd trip there since the trout were stocked and it's starting to get a little frustrating! If you watch the video in HD you can see a perfect case of "karma." As I'm saying something about how stupid trout are....my first trout swims off with my stringer in the background!

I'm not sure if you were tangled up in the line of your other pole or if you were getting a bite while bringing in that trout at Midland?? The other pole sure was dancing though

Good to see you finally solved the puzzle at Midland.
It is somewhat of a boring way to fish, but it seems like that dough bait is the way to go.

Good to see you finally solved the puzzle at Midland. I sure wouldn't say that! 3 trips and 1 fish on a worm as I was about to give up....I'm more confused than ever as to how to catch them there...unless I get my catfish gear out and chuck the dough bait out past the weeds? The main thing I like about catching trout is the fight on a ultralight though. There was 4 people in a boat trolling for them and I didn't see them catch anything either.

The other pole sure was dancing though You watch it on your phone? Yes, those crazy trout always snag my other line when I've got 2 out. I edited out the parts where I'm yelling at Kipper Jim to move my other pole as he's just standing there filming with his little camera.

1,000 trout doesn't seem like very many for that size of a lake. I think once it gets a couple years worth of stockings in it, it will get much better. Of course there's still the issue of limited spots to shore fish them. I wonder what would happen if you broke out Booey's flyrod on them?

I agree, was really hoping it would get the 2000 that Island always got. Already been thinking about Booey's flyrod. If anything it would provide cheap entertainment for the other fisherman!

You're making me want to come down just to witness this I look pretty awkward when I'm running a fly rod...that's why it is been hanging in the garage for 10 years!

I was very surprised they only stocked 1,000 there. I was even more surprised when I saw in person how big the pit actually was.

Just a heads up for anyone planning to fish Midland Lake this weekend; the pit looks like a giant mud hole from all the rain this week and water is gushing out the east end. I'm afraid the beaver pond to the east of the pit might be the new trout hole! This was 5 minutes ago...

I was thinking about heading that way, but I'm guessing this weekend will be a bust...or a mess.

I was thinking about heading that way, but I'm guessing this weekend will be a bust...or a mess. Yeah, I really don't know how the trout will react to that muddy water?? I was hoping to have a little trout get together Saturday and then watch the Final Four while cooking up something good in the garage, but then I found out the games are on TBS and the lake is a muddy mess. I seriously think that a lot of the trout are gonna end up in that beaver pond or even farther down water.

The NCAA semifinal games are no longer on CBS? What is this world coming to?

They need to cross trout with those asian carp, then the creeks would be full of those jumpers. The river used to flood that lake up on Maple in Terre Haute that is why they tore down the nursing home that used to be there.
