Do any of you have this problem? What's your opinion on it? 2 years ago we had a PACK of about 6-8 dogs who relentlessly chased the deer off our land. Ugly ones too., until the deer all left and they found somewhere else to go on their "hunt" I talked to the lady who was the mother of the person who owned the dogs and explained the problem and nicely asked her to keep them put up during hunting season. they didnt show for a few days but came back a few days later. One morning i got up extra early and climbed way up a tree and about the time first light came I heard a dog barking about 50 yards from me and they ran right past me hot on a deers trail.
Didn't have the problem last year. Saw tons of deer, several trophy bucks. This spring there has been 3 dogs back at it. Not sure who their owner is, but I was coyote huntin and had 3 dogs chase a bunch of deer through the woods and one right past me. I was mad as could be..i decided not to take any actions that day. With that being said, what do you think I should do? Are there any laws on peoples dogs trespassing or chasing deer on your land? With all the time and money I put into trying to increase the amount of deer in the area, it seems like it all gets erased as soon as someones dogs start chasing them away. Not to mention the stress it puts on the deer and pregnant does.

Technically it is illegal to shoot someone's dog while you're hunting. If you practice the three S method then what they don't know don't hurt 'em.

I'm not saying shoot them, but maybe if for some reason the dogs disappear....they might not be a problem. I have ran into the same issue. We also had a bad coyote problem. Several times the owner had told us about the yotes attacking the dog while it was in the woods. I made a suggestion to not let the dog just run loose all the time. One day the dog never came back and the owner had told us that the pack of yotes were making a lot of noise, more than normal. The dog was killed by the coyotes and they found it. So with that said, you may not want to shoot all of them but then you run into the yotes killing the fawns. It is a vicous circle but sometimes there is no "good" answer. It is sad when someone pet is killed and at the same time it is a relief. No good advise except do what you can legally to not be that person. In the end, its your call.

I have had dogs for years and always kept mine on a chain or penned up.I feel that if you see the dog once or twice I will give it a pass that it might of got loose. But if it is a constant problem then he is mine.I told a neighbor once that I didn't want his dog running loose and always coming to my property and when the dog disappeared he blamed me for it.From then on if they come around alot or cause problems they just vanish. If they were that concerned about there dogs they would keep it penned up.I live about 1/2 mile out of town, when my kids were small we had chickens and I would let them out in the yard during the day.One winter we lost 9 to dogs from town. Until I declared war on them. After eliminating 4 constant trouble makers the chicken killing stopped.

I have had several of our dogs disappear before, and i'm sure it was probably to coyotes or someone shot them. Last summer we came across a newborn fawn laying up in a brushpile in the field, and i could only imagine what 2 or 3 domestic dogs might do if they tracked that doe down and found that fawn. I know a lot of my friends will whack a dog that chases deer without hesitating. I really don't want to do that, but if people don't start taking care of their dogs someone else may have to do it for them. I will be planting more food plots this year and with the money I'm going to be spending i won't be putting up with it. Oh and the guy who owned the dogs, i think, confronted me one evening while i was coyote hunting on my gmas land near their property. I had been calling and had just shot a coyote when i turned around and saw him walking around on his side of the fence with a gun. Apparently the coyote saw him as well because it had stopped and was looking his way when i shot. He went on to talk to me a little and he just told me he heard a shot and was checking it out. Then I guess he didnt like me shooting coyotes because he walked up to the house and started shooting his 22 off rapid fire as fast as he could Haha. When i set up that evening I had determined if one of those dang dogs shows up I was just gonna whack it. It's a good thing his dogs didnt show up that day.
