Monty told his wife today that all he wanted for his birthday was for Sam to get a buck. Catfishsam DELIVERED!!  I'll let them tell the story....as of this writing they're still out in the field recovering it. Congrats guys!!   |

Thanks for all the birthday wishes, guys! Definitely one I won't forget.
Told Sam if he wanted me to I'd let him get in his stand, then I'd walk through the woods and try to push something to him. Had the wife drop me off, and I told her all I wanted for my birthday was for Sam to get a shot at a decent buck.
Kicked a couple does up right off the bat. Walked a little farther and got the binoculars out. Panned the woods and saw a decent, tall 6 pointer staring me down. He turned and headed Sam's direction and a couple minutes later I heard a blast. I'm in the woods all alone fist pumping. I texted Sam and asked if he got it. I got back "Hopefully! I'm shakin!"
I made my way to his stand and he got down and said he had seen 4 different bucks, a couple fork horns and another smaller one with the one he shot. He didn't know how many points the one he shot at had. Said he just saw horns. I just assumed it was the buck I had seen earlier. Found good blood where he shot, so we decided to give it a little time before tracking.
When we returned to start tracking, the trail faded pretty quickly and I was really starting to get nervous. After about a half hour, I told Sam I didn't have a good feeling about it. A minute later we found him. The greatest part was that I thought we were tracking a decent little 6 pointer and it turned out to be this nice, tall 8. Needless to say we were both pretty pumped.
