Well guys after mowing my food plot im starting to regret it.. the oats dont look as green as they used to be and looks like field grasses are coming up from being exposed to the sunlight. Oh well i still think it will be fine as long as i continue to mow it.. this time i think i will use a riding mower to mow it every 2 weeks or so.
Now I am focosing on putting in my main "destination" food plots like my corn, soybeans, and winter wheat. Thank goodness i dont have to worry about getting the w. wheat in the ground until fall because i am extremely busy with the corn and bean plots. Just dished out $50 for some quality Round up Ready soybeans (60 lbS) And $20 for a 2 gallon sprayer. So its definitely not the cheapest way to go but the deer LOVE soybeans and if your gonna do it might as well do it right. I will plant the beans by using this little wagon thing that will drop the seeds in about a 2ft wide area. Then with my next pass i will leave a small gap between the "rows" so i will be able to easily spray them to control the weeds thorughout the summer without damging the plants.. then i will lightly disk them in by disking straight down the row and hoping that there will still be a gap between the rows after i disc them in..haha and im going to use a lawn mower to drive over the field after planting the seed to pack it down with my tires. And the corn im just gonna go through and plant by hand! which will take forever im sure..
So sunday i bushhogged the corn+bean plots, today i spent the evening plowing them and removing rocks, and tomorrow I will disc them and plant the beans. And get as much corn in the ground before church as I can on wednesday night. Then it looks like it will be thunderstorms for a few days and hopefully my beans will take off! Ill keep you posted on what happens. Ive put more money into this than I thought, but to me its alot of fun and a pretty good investment if you think about it. Most of the cost lies in the fuel for the tractor.
Ill try to put some pics up if i can
