I'm taking a welding class in school this semester, and turns out I'm not too bad. Anyways, our upcoming assignment is to make blueprints and then create a welding project. I decided to make a hang-on treestand out of an old porch rail that was my Grandmas. IT's made of 1/2 inch square bars. My original design was to make the platform just out of bars. I decided now to use expanded matal over a square frame with two running bars to keep it light. I cut all the pieces today, That's a LONG job with a big heavy handgrinder! The dimensions are 23.5"W x 26.5"L on the platform, 21" from platform to seat. And 10.5"L x 14"W on the seat. My seat design is to make the square frame from the bars, bolt on a piece of plywood to that, then put a cushion on it. So far, I'm pretty proud of it. I'll post up the design tomorrow, but I left the blueprints at school. Hopefully It'll turn out good, or at least huntable!

Not doubting your welding ability, just be careful and give a test that isn't very high up. Good luck, I wanna see it

Finally finished! Had to wait a while for the plasma cutter to get fixed Then I got into helping build some feed bunks. But she's all done now. Mounted it to a tree and it held me. Gave it some good bounces and all is good.

Looks good. I remember my metals class a classmate and me made a trailer. For a utility shed. Or better known as the local Santa clause house still used to this day.

Hey guys, I finished the truck mounted deer hoist. I started with pice of metal that fit directly into my reese hitch, and drilled a hole for a pin. Then I stuck a larger piece of square metal around it and welded it, because it was big enough to weld the pipe I was using directly onto it at a 90 degree without it hanging off the edges. The I ran about a 2 inch diameter pipe up from there, I started with it at 100 inches like one I looked up, but my truck sits pretty high and that looked really high, so I shortened it to around 91" Then a 2ft 6 in. piece that comes straight off of that at a 90 degree. That part was a litle tricky, I had to to heat the end of the long piece with a torch and flatten it out, because the round side of 2 in. pipe doesn't go onto the flate side. I left the bottom square piece long because that makes it easier to put it in my reese hitch ( by putting the big end on the ground, and angling the small end to the hitch.) And I went ahead and put my old auger winch there., put a pulley on the top piece, and attatched it to my hanger I made out of some old fence posts. That was definately tricky too! All these heavy pieces were EXTREMELY hard to weld by myself, plus my dad didn't have any small electrodes. Just some bigger 6011's and a few 7018's used to make this, ad everything was wither scrap or junk I found on the farm. Sorry this is a little hard to follow, here's the picture.

It's still a crappy cell phone pick, but I resized and rotated it.

Figured I'd change the name. Even though there's not a whole lot of interest, I figured I'd post about my next project, as I might try to to sell a few. I'm going to try to make some climbing sticks for hang-on treestands. As all the ones I can find are expensive! I think I can make them pretty cheap..
