Tomorrow morning ill be heading up to the lake -by myself - to try to catch my limit of crappie! We always take a few trips up there in the fall/winter to catch them of the docks.. i almost forgot about them this year! Was gonna go this morning but didnt because we got about 2" of snow. Hopefully the roads arent too bad in the morning.. Im gonna be fishing off the docks with some hair jigs. Ill let you guys know how I did. Ill put some pics up if i get anything.

Hey bowhunter i live across the road from paynetown and fish those docks alot. I have been out fishing the people with live bait probably 20 to 1 no joke. I use little shad type body soft plastics on 1/16-1/8oz. jigheads. The third set of docks in from the main lake are the best.Dont be afraid to throw out away from the docks in the deep I have caught some walleye there this year.Last time i was there the weather was a little better and i had a limit in less than a half hour. I stayed there for about 2 hrs. and stopped counting at 75. Hope this cold snap didnt lock jaw them to much.

Dang, that sounds fun! You guys catch them all winter there when there's open water? I've been itching for ice so bad that I've been thinking about going to Shakamak and "ice fish" off the docks.

Hey eric, thats exactly where i went.. I fished on all the docks but had the best luck on the 1st dock (the one that is in worst shape) I was catching them from 2- 8 ft deep and even saw some at the surface. I fished from 9:15 to 4:00 and probly caught 100 and about 20 little yellow bass. Kept my limit of crappie but they were all very small. Might try some minnows next time if the Fishin' Shed has them. I was usin 2 poles. One had a white hair jig and the other had a black+white hair jig. I would catch one on my first pole, throw the fish on the dock, and catch another on the other pole. It was crazy. Have you been catching any with any size? the ones i caught were probly 8" at the most I usually catch atlest 3 or 4 decent ones and i have seen some big ones caught there but there are an awful lot of little ones. But ill take what i can get.

If you had a 8" average size you are doing well on monroe. There are big ones out there, but you have to weed through hundreds of small ones for every one big one.I caught two fish at those docks that went a pound and a quarter each in late october early november. I didnt measure them but would put them in the 12-13" range.I have caught big ones out on the main lake while bass fishing. On another note when you go to those docks you should take a pole that will handle wiper.I was fishing there one time this year and had wiper come right up into the boat slips smashing small bluegill. It scares the crap out of you when it happens right in front you.

Id say they probly were more like 7" ..i didnt measure them tho. I will probly go up there again on thursday or friday if we dont get a bunch of snow. I have seen 5-7 pound bass smashing bluegill like that too.. There are some big gills down there if you go in the summer and fish close to that gas dock w the roof. Im gonna pick up some of those baits like you said you use..i saw some at Kmart the other day that looked good. And ive been tying all kinds of jigs to use LOL. ANd i think i will get some minnows to use. When i was up there i put on two curly tail grubs with 1/8 oz jigheads and was throwing them down the edge of the dock and never got anything to hit. Thats suprised me cuz usually those will tear up the crappie at the river..
I might have to take some small shad up there and see if i can catch a walleye/bass/wiper. All i have to do is go down to the river and use a net to cath them..there are thousand of them all along the edge of the river, but they would be too big for 95% of the crappie in there lol
