Hey guys, looks like people are puttin some deer on the ground.. but i have been having a hard time this year. I have been fortunate enough to see deer almost every time i go, and some good bucks too! But i cant put one on the ground.. I have shot 3 times this year.
Missed a doe at 25 yards(hit a small tree).
Missed one at 55 yards, which i usually limit myself to 30 yards on does, so i shouldnt have even shot at her.
Then tonight i had a yearling doe come out and was grazing on clover and acorns directly under me, then she stepped out at 20 yards in the clover, and I hear something behind me and look back. And on the property next to where i was hunting, there was a truck coming toward me and the deer. Now, at this point im thinking this deer is gonna take out of here snorting and ruin the whole deal. The plan was to shoot only MATURE does! But i have been very frustrated and need some meat. So i put my camera on her then stood up and shot her before she took off running. She was quartering away and the shot was way too far forward, it hit the front of her shoulder and she ran off fine with the arrow stick half way out of her.
Idk if my bow sight was moved while walking to the stand or if it was just me, but i thought i was aiming for the opposit shoulder and the shot felt good. Long story short, didnt find a drop of blood, the arrow, or the deer. And btw it really makes me upset and mad that i did that, it is probably the worst feeling i have ever had, wounding a deer is a terrible thing.
NOW, about this truck.. I figure its the landowner just checkin on his cattle and i wasnt really mad or anything. But listen to this. So he drives up along the fence about 30 yards to the right of me. And then he turns around and drives back along the fence reall sloww, then he stops about 30 yards from me and sits there for about 15 minutes. Then he fires off a high powered rifle twice. And it was very loud. And he sat there for another 10 minutes and then left. Now, he didnt do anything illegal, but I think thats kind of rude to do that. I DID have permission to hunt where i was. I kept thinking he was going to come over and say something to me and i was just gonna tell him that i was going to call the dnr and report him for hunter harassment. ANd probably call the landowner too.
Anyways, i took down my trail cams in that area. And my treestand has a lock on it, and has all my information on it. I am woried he will try to steal something. I will probably start taking out the bottom 2 steps form my tree if i see him again.
