Decided to go down to the Greene-Sullivan State Forest this evening and try for some rainbow trout in the dark. Stopped by Wagg's Bait in Linton and picked up some healthy crawlers and redworms. Got on the water around 9. Beautiful evening with the moon. Was fishing in 35-45 fow and had a good bite around 9:30 at 24' but missed it because I was watching a beaver heading my way. The beaver swam up and checked me out and then gave a tall slap that shook the pines. Didn't get another bite til about 10:30 and missed again....3 times. The last time I let it really load up the rod and couldn't believe I whiffed. I had dropped a glow stick down about 12' and was marking some fish around it, so I reeled up to it and caught a dink bluegill a little after 11:00 and called it a night. Can't believe I made it off the water without a bat smashing into my face. Water temp was 77-75.

Would you mind giving out location? For the beaver, not the trout.

I have paddled up to beavers in my kayak when it was getting dark and it scares the crap out of you when they slap the water right next to you! There are quite a few of them in the creek by my house..it sucks pulling a kayak over the log jams they cause, but it makes some good deep holes to fish for drum and catfish in!
