For the last two years we have had spring floods now we get a drought We got a little sprinkle yesterday. Ponds are drying up, farmers are having to sell their cattle, trees are turning brown. Anybody know if they"ll come back to life? A little rain sure would be nice.

We're in the same shape here, Logan. Really getting worried about the fish in our pond.

Same here.. my gmas pond is almost dried up. The corn isnt doing good, and the soybeans are in really bad shape. We got a some rain for about 30 minutes last sunday night, but when its 105 outside almost all day long, it dries up again pretty fast. Ive been leaving my windows down on the truck so that it will rain, lol

Thought I was finally getting a little relief on Monday. Was golfing at a course maybe 4 miles from my house. Had a little shower on #16, then just after we finished, it cut loose. Sat at my buddies house and watched it pour for about an hour. They ended up with right at an inch. Got back to my house and not a friggin drop. Every time we get those "hit and miss" showers, I've gotten a "miss!"

Every time we get those "hit and miss" showers, I've gotten a "miss!" Same here! We had a nice batch of T-storms come through last week and pretty much every town in the area got some kind of a downpour. Somehow it missed my town and we get about a 2 minute sprinkle. The crops are the worst I've ever seen them around here. My garden isn't doing very good either, even though I water twice per day. City water doesn't have near the nutrients as rain or well water.

Rain?

Our pond is the lowest it's been in years and we've noticed some big schools of bluegill swimming around near the surface. Some of these 'gills are getting HUGE and we'd hate to lose them. Yesterday I rigged up my trash pump to use as a fountain to try and get them some oxygen. My understanding is that the plants in the pond will produce oxygen as long as the sun is out, but at night the plant life actually absorbs oxygen and this is when the fish will struggle. We can't afford the gas to run the fountain all night, so we'll have to figure out a schedule of late night/early morning aerating. Hopefully one of these days it will start raining again!

Dang. That looks like it is down about two feet. When I have been out and about lately I have noticed that a lot of the farm ponds are looking pretty bad as well. I'm happy that West Island has a few springs feeding it, but those can only do so much.

Not much rain up here in Ohio either. Got some storms over this past weekend that hit my area pretty well, but it has been hit or miss as well.
We probably got somewhere between 2-3 inches total over three or four days. The crops in my county have been looking better. Corn is probably about 4-5 feet tall already. It started curling before the storms, but has perked back up.
Lakes and ponds around here are very low. Some of the major reservoirs here are down between 7-10 feet. I like the nice weather, but we need a nice long week of rain everywhere.

Rain?

Today I was mowing a yard with a riding mower, and a bunch of dead grass got built up on top of the blade cover and the next thing I knew it was on fire . I got it put out with a water hose but i'm just glad the ground didn't catch on fire. All I can come up with is that the blade threw a spark and the grass being as dry as it is caught on fire, but don't think grass is growing down here, this yard was tall and brown.

[quote author plants in the pond will produce oxygen as long as the sun is out, but at night the plant life actually absorbs oxygen and this is when the fish will struggle. In a section of the creek where i was fishin this morning, there were schools of drum/perch swimming around and there is a small spring fed creek trickling into the main creek, and the fish were sitting below it , also some of the perch were actually jumping out of the water onto land or into really shallow water.. I think there wasnt much oxygen in the water, and they were also staying cool in the cold spring water. But heres were it gets strange, I was messing around trying to hook one of the big perch, and i ended up snagging one that was with a smaler female perch (spawning maybe) and I got him in and tried to let him go, but he just went belly up and I was trying to revive him, but i couldnt so i had to bring him home with me.. then i loook behind me and the femal perch with him was swimming around and next thing i know it turned upside down and sank to the bottom!! Then i felt bad about even messing with them in the first place, and so i ended up taking both of them home to clean.. I think i will be leaving the other perch alone for now on. It was really strange.the big perch was 24" long and weighed 5 lbs.. it was the biggest perch ive ever caught most likely
