Has anyone else caught any?? I caught a nice one in a smaller lake near monroe, but it was a long time ago. Attachments:

Very cool catch! I was just reading an old creel survey from Monroe and it sounds like they were pretty thick at one time. Guess they even tried stocking northern pike in '79 to thin out the perch and yellow bass. Would you mind saying how they were caught? Yellow perch show up on Shakamak's Kickapoo Lake survey every time, but I've never heard of anyone catching one.

Evidently not. I've never heard of anyone catching one out of there...then again...I had never heard of anyone catching yellow perch out of there either. Same with tiger muskie at Sullivan Lake....that lake is so full of little fish that I don't see how a predator couldn't survive? But I guess they didn't. I remember reading some where that the yellow perch in Shakamak came from illegal stockings....something about guys bringing a bunch back from Canada and releasing them in the 70's or 80's. The ones in the creel survey have been fairly good sized; 8-10 inches.

It is crazy to think that there could be a few huge old northerns swimming around in Monroe.

I've caught a few on our lake. Most of them stay on the north side of the lake but, after the flood they kind of scattered everywhere.

Yellow perch show up on Shakamak's Kickapoo Lake survey every time, but I've never heard of anyone catching one. They were caught with a simple bluegill rig, a small hook, split-shot, and a bobber. Redworms for bait. Bobber was set about 2 1/2 ft deep and where i was fishing was maybe about 3-5 ft deep. Im goin fishin to yellowwood lake near monroe this weekend if i can talk my dad into it. I caught a real nice yellow perch in there when i was real little.. i havent been there in a LONG time. Id like to fill a cooler up with big gills and maybe see if i can catch one of them perch or a big crappie on some minners. It a pretty nice lake. Good sized bass too.

Troy, I caught a yellow perch through the ice on kickapoo several years ago. That's the only one that I have ever heard of being caught.

Thanks Jon, I knew SOMEBODY would have had to of caught one in there through the ice. I was marking fish down deep over the road bed there one summer so I dropped some minnows down, but no luck.
