Here's a picture of my first turkey from this spring.
-im not really sure how to put a picture up, or if it will work, but im gonna try and we'll see if it works lol
I set up within 50 yards of the roost about a half hour before daylight..i could see the birds in the tree. Had my hen+jake decoys 10 yards in front of me at the edge of the field. at daylight, one by one about 18 birds flew into the middle of field 80 yards away.1 hen, bunch of jakes + 2 toms. I was callin with my mouth call and htye were answering but were moving away. When I was finally able to move i got my slate call from my vest and threw out some loud aggressive yelps , they answered andf i yelped right back every time they gobbled until they i got them fired up, then i put the call on the ground and got ready.. I looked to my right and saw the two toms RUNNING to me. they stopped by the group of jakes and pecked at them to move them away, from there they just blew up into full strut as they slowly walked stright at me! I was shakin and i was wanting to shoot the whole time. I knew they would get closer and i was worried about killing them both with one shot, so i waited for a good shot. they got to about 12- 15 yards and they were right next to each other, but the one of the turkeys started to stick his neck out slowly at the hen decoy and i took the shot. After the shot i thought i missed because he fell straight down in the tall grass and did not move. After that i yelped with my mouth call and the other tom gobbled and then walked over to my turkey and jumped on it, and i stood up and got him off my bird!!
Talk about exciting! I got him in the first 15 minutes of the season too. He weighed 21 lbs and had a 10" beard.
Also, when the toms were comin to me, i heard the old hen across the field start yelping really loud..It was a fun hunt.
