I'm beginning to think this thing called an "Indiana walleye" is a mythical creature.
Dad, Chase, and me headed over to Monroe bright and early this morning armed with 4 dozen crawlers, 4 dozen shiners, and 25 3-5" bluegill. I had 5 rods off the back baited with the little 'gills...2 down rods, 2 planers, and 1 balloon for wipers and we jigged for 'eyes off the front using a variety of colors with both crawlers and medium shiners. We'd of got more meat if we ate the bait.
We caught a few dink crappie right off the bat and then the catfish started hitting. We threw quite a few back before I said we might as well eat 'em. The little yellow bass were a constant battle; they'd come and grab your bait right off the jig on the way down or up. Chase caught 1 baby wiper that went about 10 inches and Dad caught the only decent channel cat. Had something grab a couple of the little 'gills, but didn't get a hook-up either time. There was a few striper boats trolling, but we didn't see anyone fighting any fish.
We fished anywhere from 6-18'. Water temp was just under 79 the whole time. The winds really picked up around noon and we called it a day not long after.
My fishing partner has been staying up WAY too late on summer break; he slept the whole way there and back and half the time in the boat.
Our pitiful little mess...the only yellow bass that looked big enough to get a filet off it went in the cooler too. If them things are fit to eat, I might have to change my tactics!
