how you boys cook them their trouts ? fry,grill.or boil? gest what be the best way?

I've tried them fried, smoked, and grilled. To be honest, they're not my favorite eating fish. Probably the best I've tried is freshly caught, gutted, and placed on the grill. Next time I think I'll try making them "hobo" style; in foil. I seen this somewhere but can't remember now? It goes something like this... Rub filets or whole fish with olive oil and season with salt and pepper. Place fish in foil with butter, garlic, onions, lemon juice. Loosely wrap foil and place on grill or in the oven and cook until steam releases from foil.
Just now found this that I'm gonna try soon too!

many moons ago we would catch brookies and simply toss em in a cast iron skillet with butter.
Nowadays when i do eat trout (have developed an allergy to fish so i must be real careful (read: selective) about eating any fish) I prefer them on my tripod grill over a smokey, open fire of hardwoods in camp.
To expand on Greenes thoughts, i have put them in foil, on my grill, with different herbs and spices. Green onions, garlic, lemon juice, butter, salt, pepper in any and all combos work well. Use a medium heat and an indirect grilling method.
Greene, i think your issue with them not being "your favorite eating fish" (altho i agree, perch and cold water crappie are my fave eaters) might be they are fresh stockers...straight from the hatchery. The dog food they feed 'em there gives them an off taste (at least to me)...they dont seem to have that taste when they are wild fish or holdovers that have been in the system for a year or more.
Another trick i have learned is when you are cleaning them for the grill. Put them in COLD water and use a green scotch brite pad on the skin, this removes the tiny scales, dirt, filth and other impurities on the skin, it does help with flavor.
You will be AMAZED at how filthy the fresh, clean, cold water gets doing this.

i too am not a big fan of eatin trout. bluegill, crappie and waleye being the best. how ever they are beautitful fish. and are good fighters. just a tad bit over rated in the eatin side. never thought about how they were rasied before released. makes cents. thanks
